PHILADELPHIA – The Concordia College women's basketball team had their three game win streak snapped on Saturday afternoon as the Clippers were defeated at Chestnut Hill College in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) action, 89-72.
In the first quarter Concordia jumped out to an early 7-0 lead as the Clippers would maintain their seven point advantage at the 3:01 mark, 20-13. From here the Griffins would go on an 8-0 run to take their first lead of the game, 21-20, with 1:22 remaining in the period. Concordia scored five of the final seven points of the quarter to hold a 25-23 advantage after 10 minutes of play.
The second quarter saw both teams neck-and-neck on the scoreboard as neither side was able to gain a sizable lead. The period saw six ties and five lead changes as Chestnut Hill ended the quarter with seven unanswered points as the Clippers went into the locker room trailing 43-37.
The Griffins extended their advantage to nine points in the third quarter as Concordia would use a 10-2 run to get within a point, 48-47, at the 7:09 mark. The Clippers ended the period with a 12-2 run as Concordia led 65-61 going into the final 10 minutes of play.
Seven unanswered points for Chestnut Hill began the fourth quarter as the Griffins regained their lead at the 8:26 mark, 68-65. The Clippers stopped their scoring drought with a layup as 7:38 remained on the clock, but Concordia would struggle offensively in the period as Chestnut Hill scored 16 of the last 17 points in the final three minutes of the game as the Griffins took an 89-72 victory.
Junior Julianne Wilkinson (Red Hook, N.Y.) led the Clippers with 26 points while junior Hadiyah Black (Brooklyn, N.Y.) recorded a career-high 25 rebounds to go along with 15 points and a game-high five blocks for her seventh double-double of the season. The 25 rebounds in the game tied the single-game record within the CACC as well as set a new mark within the women's basketball program at Concordia. The previous record for the Clippers was set by Chanessa Blakemore on Feb. 4, 2012 at Philadelphia where she recorded 23 rebounds in the game. Senior Jessica Rosalbo (Staten Island, N.Y.) chipped in with 15 points and five assists as Concordia's bench was out-scored 57-8.
The Clippers (7-17, 7-9 CACC) will return home for their final two regular season games next week as Concordia hosts CACC North Division rival Bloomfield College on Wednesday evening.
