Clippers Women's Basketball Defeats Philadelphia University, 83-69, in a CACC Showdown

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – For the first time since the 2004-05 season the Concordia College women's basketball team defeated Philadelphia University after an 83-69 victory in their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) game on Saturday afternoon, snapping a 12-game losing streak against the Rams.

The Clippers jumped out to the early 7-3 advantage in the first quarter as Concordia would increase their lead to 14-6 at the 6:26 mark. Philadelphia would use a 14-4 run to take their first lead of the game at 20-18 with 21 seconds to go in the period. The Clippers capped the quarter with a three point basket at the buzzer by senior Jessica Rosalbo (Staten Island, N.Y.), but Concordia trailed 22-21 after 10 minutes of action.

In the second quarter the Clippers regained their advantage and would open up a 34-28 lead at the midway point of the period. The Rams would cut their deficit to a basket at the 4:26 mark, but Concordia ended the half on a 12-5 run to go into the locker room with a 46-37 lead.

Philadelphia came out with five unanswered points in the third quarter, but were unable to take a lead on the scoreboard. After leading 54-52 at the 5:24 mark, the Clippers ended the period with 14 unanswered points as Concordia would go into the final quarter with a 68-52 lead.

The Rams would look to mount a late comeback in the fourth as Philadelphia cut their deficit to 12 points midway through the period, 72-60. The Clippers' defense would not allow another field goal until the last possession for the Rams as Concordia maintained their sizable advantage to take the 83-69 victory.

Rosalbo led the Clippers with 21 points while adding seven rebounds and a game-high five assists. Freshman Amiya Rankins (Somerset, N.J.) recorded a career-high 19 points in her first collegiate start while adding six rebounds. Junior Lyric Blanch (Kingston, N.Y.) chipped in with 15 points, eight rebounds, and two steals while junior Hadiyah Black (Brooklyn, N.Y.) recorded her sixth double-double of the season with 10 points and a game-high 10 rebounds.

Concordia (6-16, 6-8 CACC) will be on the road for their next two games as the Clippers visit Felician University on Tuesday evening.
