NYACK, N.Y. – The Concordia Clippers women's basketball team traveled to Nyack College on Wednesday evening for a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) North Division game. Concordia would take a 77-74 victory against the Warriors as the Clippers swept the season series for the fourth time in the past six seasons.
The first quarter began with Nyack taking an early 7-0 lead as Concordia scored their first points of the game at the 7:13 mark. The Clippers used a 9-2 run to knot the score at 9-9 with 5:17 to go, but could not take their first lead of the game until ending the quarter on a 6-2 run to hold a 19-18 advantage after 10 minutes of action.
In the second quarter Concordia began with six unanswered points as the Clippers led 25-18 with just under eight minutes to go until halftime. The Warriors would cut their deficit to two following a 5-0 run, but Concordia maintained their lead and at the half led 35-30.
Five straight points for Nyack to begin the third quarter allowed the home team to tie the score at 35-35. The Clippers would regain their sizable lead as a 9-2 run opened up a seven points advantage at the 5:11 mark. Seven unanswered points for the Warriors would knot the score again with 4:12 to go in the period, but Concordia would hold a one point lead at the end of the quarter, 53-52, in the tightly contested battle.
The fourth quarter saw the Clippers begin with a 7-0 run to take an eight point lead with just over seven minutes to go in regulation. Concordia would maintain the eight point advantage for much of the period until Nyack cut the deficit to 70-67 with 31 seconds to go. The Clippers would hit their free throws in the closing seconds despite a late run by the Warriors as Concordia held on for the 77-74 win at Bowman Gymnasium.
Senior Jessica Rosalbo (Staten Island, N.Y.) led the Clippers with 21 points while adding seven rebounds, three assists, and two steals. Freshman Amiya Rankins (Somerset, N.J.) came off the bench to score a career-high 17 points as she also had five rebounds. Junior Julianne Wilkinson (Red Hook, N.Y.) would chip in with 14 points as junior Hadiyah Black (Brooklyn, N.Y.) recorded her fifth double-double of the season with 10 points and a game-high 16 rebounds.
Concordia (5-16, 5-8 CACC) will return home on Saturday afternoon to host Philadelphia University in their only regular season matchup.
