BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – The Concordia College women's basketball team hosted Wilmington University (Del.) on Saturday afternoon in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) game. The Clippers mounted a late run in the closing minutes, but were unable to complete the comeback as the Wildcats took an 82-73 win.
In the first quarter Wilmington jumped out to a 7-2 lead as Concordia used an 11-5 to hold a 13-12 advantage at the 3:11 mark. The Wildcats would score back-to-back baskets to regain the lead, but the Clippers would tie the score at 17-17 after 10 minutes of action.
The second quarter saw Concordia use a 10-6 run as the Clippers opened up a 27-23 advantage with 7:14 remaining on the clock. Concordia would maintain their lead until eight unanswered points for Wilmington gave them a 37-33 advantage. The two teams each scored a field goal in the closing 25 seconds as the Wildcats went into the locker room with a 39-35.
Wilmington would come out in the third quarter with a double digit lead by the 6:57 mark after beginning the period on a 10-3 run. The Wildcats would continue to extend their advantage as the Clippers trailed 68-54 after the third quarter.
Five straight points for Wilmington to begin the fourth quarter extended their lead to 19 points, 73-54, with 7:03 to go. Concordia would then score 17 of the next 19 points to cut their deficit to four at 75-71 with under two minutes remaining on the clock. The Clippers were unable to complete the comeback as the Wildcats held on for the 82-73 victory.
Junior Lyric Blanch (Kingston, N.Y.) led Concordia with 18 points and a career-high five steals while senior Jessica Rosalbo (Staten Island, N.Y.) added 15 points and three assists. Junior Hadiyah Black (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and freshman Amiya Rankins (Somerset, N.J.) both scored 12 points as Rankins recorded a career-high 13 rebounds for her first double-double while Black had 11 rebounds for her fourth double-double of the season. Junior Julianne Wilkinson (Red Hook, N.Y.) chipped in with 10 points, four assists, and four steals.
The Clippers (4-16, 4-8 CACC) will be on the road for their next game on Wednesday evening.
