Women's Basketball Falls to CACC North Division Foe Bloomfield, 59-55

BLOOMFIELD, N.J. – The Concordia College women's basketball team visited the Bloomfield Bears on Saturday afternoon in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) North Division game. The Clippers nearly completed a comeback late in the fourth quarter, however Bloomfield would hold on for a 59-55 win.

Concordia took an early lead in the first quarter until the Bears used their three-point shooting to take an 11-6 advantage at the 5:55 mark. The Clippers responded with 10 unanswered points to regain the lead, but Bloomfield ended the period with five straight points as both teams were tied after 10 minutes of action, 16-16.

In the second quarter Concordia scored back-to-back points to take a four point lead. An 11-2 run for the Bears would follow as the Clippers trailed 27-22 with under two minutes to go until halftime. Bloomfield would score four of the last six points in the quarter as Concordia went into the locker room trailing 31-24.

The third quarter began with the Bears continuing their strong shooting performance as a 7-0 run increased the deficit for the Clippers to 38-24 at the 7:51 mark. Concordia managed to get within single digits with 2:07 to go in the period as the Clippers would end the quarter on a 9-4 run overall as Bloomfield led 44-37.

Both teams scored two three-point baskets to begin the fourth quarter as Concordia slowly cut into the deficit. A 15-5 run for the Clippers allowed them to knot the score at 55-55 with 39 seconds to go in regulation. Concordia was unable to complete the comeback as the Bears made four free throws to edge the Clippers, 59-55.

Senior Jessica Rosalbo (Staten Island, N.Y.) led Concordia with a career-high 29 points as she connected on five three-point baskets. Freshman Amiya Rankins (Somerset, N.J.) came off the bench to add 12 points while junior Hadiyah Black (Brooklyn, N.Y.) recorded team-highs of six rebounds and four blocks.

The Clippers (4-14, 4-6 CACC) will return home on Tuesday to host Dominican (N.Y.) for a 5 p.m. game in the Meyer Athletic Center.
