Concordia Women's Basketball Ends 2016 Calendar Year With a 74-70 Overtime Defeat at Southern N.H.

MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Concordia College women's basketball team concluded the 2016 calendar year with a non-conference road game on Friday evening at Southern New Hampshire. The Clippers were unable to capture the victory as the Penmen secured a 74-70 overtime win at the SNHU Fieldhouse.

The game was originally scheduled for 1:30 p.m., but was moved to a 5:15 p.m. tip-off due to a power failure. Concordia scored the first two baskets of the game to grab an early 4-0 lead in the first quarter as Southern N.H. used an 8-0 run to take an 8-4 lead at the 6:53 mark.

The home team would earn as much as a five-point lead in the period as the Clippers used a 6-2 run to get within a point, 13-12, with under three minutes to go. The Penmen scored five of the last nine points as Concordia trailed 18-16 after 10 minutes of action.

In the second quarter both teams began with a field goal as Southern N.H. Would go on a 10-2 run for the remainder of the period. At halftime the Clippers trailed 30-20, scoring only four points in the quarter.

The third quarter saw Concordia trail by 14 points at the 6:02 mark, 41-27, but the Clippers would then go on an 11-2 run to cut their deficit to five points with 3:02 to go. Concordia ended the remainder of the period on a 5-2 run as the Clippers went into the fourth quarter down only a basket, 45-43.

In the fourth quarter a 6-2 run to begin would put Concordia on top by two points. The two sides would alternate the lead on the scoreboard as the Clippers would trail by three points with less than a minute to go in regulation. Concordia would come back to knot the score at 60-60 as the two teams would play into overtime.

The Penmen came out with a 9-2 run as the Clippers trailed 69-62 with 2:30 to go. An 8-2 run for Concordia would cut their deficit to a point, 71-70, with 31 seconds remaining on the clock. The Clippers were unable to complete their comeback as Southern N.H. held on for the 74-70 victory.

Senior Jessica Rosalbo (Staten Island, N.Y.) led Concordia with 18 points as she now has 997 career points. Freshman Amiya Rankins (Somerset, N.J.) came off the bench to score a career-high 15 points as junior Julianne Wilkinson (Red Hook, N.Y.) added 14 points and junior Hadiyah Black (Brooklyn, N.Y.) recorded a game-high 15 rebounds.

The Clippers (3-10, 3-2 CACC) will return home on Wednesday afternoon to host Georgian Court University for a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) game in the Meyer Athletic Center.
