Women's Basketball Upended, 64-56, by Caldwell in CACC Action

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – The Concordia College women's basketball team battled Caldwell University in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) North Division showdown on Saturday afternoon in the Meyer Athletic Center. The Clippers nearly completed a fourth quarter comeback, but the Cougars would hold on for the 64-56 win.

Caldwell began the game with a 6-0 lead as Concordia would trail 13-6 at the 2:37 mark. The Clippers would score five of the next seven points to cut their deficit to four, but the Cougars ended the quarter on a 4-0 run to hold a 19-11 advantage after 10 minutes of play.

Concordia found themselves down double-digits with 8:12 remaining in the second quarter as Caldwell began to knock down some outside shots. The Clippers would respond with some three-point shooting of their own, but the Cougars ended the half on a 5-1 run to take a 36-24 lead into the locker room.

In the third quarter neither team was able to score in the early going until an 8-4 run for Caldwell opened their advantage to 46-30 at the 3:55 mark. From here Concordia responded with an 8-2 run to close out the period as the Clippers trailed 48-38 going into the final quarter.

Concordia opened the final stanza with eight unanswered points to trail by only a basket at the 8:22 mark. The Cougars would answer with a 9-0 run to regain their double-digit lead. The Clippers attempted one more comeback, but were unable to complete it as Caldwell took a 64-56 victory.

Junior Hadiyah Black (Brooklyn, N.Y.) led Concordia with 15 points and a game-high 16 rebounds for her first double-double of the season. Freshman Amiya Rankins (Somerset, N.J.) came off the bench to score a career-high 14 points as the Clippers out-rebounded the Cougars 49-32 in the game.

Concordia (2-7, 2-2 CACC) will be on the road for their next four games to end the 2016 calendar year. The Clippers visit Southern Conn. St. on Wednesday evening for a 5:30 p.m. non-conference tip-off.
