Clippers Women's Basketball Upended in CACC Action at Wilmington (Del.)

NEWARK, Del. – The Concordia College women's basketball team visited Wilmington University (Del.) for a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) matchup on Friday afternoon. The Wildcats would secure the home victory as the Clippers fell 77-43 at the WU Athletics Complex.

The first quarter began with Wilmington jumping out to an early 10-2 advantage four minutes into the period. Concordia would use a 6-1 run to bring their deficit to three points, 11-8, but the Wildcats responded with six unanswered points to regain their advantage. The Clippers were only able to score once more in the quarter as they ended the first 10 minutes of play trailing 19-10.

Concordia came out in the second quarter with an 8-4 run as their three-point shooting allowed them to cut the deficit to five points at 23-18. Wilmington would end the half on a 10-3 run as the Clippers went into the locker room trailing 35-23.

In the third quarter Concordia began with a 7-2 run to cut their deficit to single digits. A 12-3 run for the Wildcats would follow as the home team held a 49-33 advantage with 4:04 remaining in the period. The Clippers managed to score only four more points, all on free throws, to end the quarter as Wilmington held a 55-37 lead going into the final period.

The Wildcats scored 10 unanswered points to begin the fourth quarter as Concordia broke their scoreless drought at the 6:18 mark. The Clippers were unable to get any closer as Wilmington went on to take the 77-43 win.

Freshman Courtney Fleming (Brooklyn, N.Y.) led Concordia with 12 points as she also added four rebounds. Junior Jessica Rosalbo (Staten Island, N.Y.) recorded eight points and added a team-high five assists while sophomore Hadiyah Black (Brooklyn, N.Y.) added four points and a game-high 13 rebounds for the Clippers.

Concordia (3-14, 1-9 CACC) will return home for a three game home stand beginning on Tuesday, January 26th. The Clippers will host CACC North Division foe Felician University for a 5 p.m. tip-off in the Meyer Athletic Center.
