MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Concordia College women's basketball team began the second half of their schedule on Monday evening with a non-conference game at Southern New Hampshire University. The Clippers were unable to kick off the new year with a victory as the Penmen took a 70-61 win at the SNHU Fieldhouse.
After Concordia scored the opening basket in the first quarter, Southern N.H. Used a 5-0 run to open up a 5-2 advantage. The Clippers would keep the score close and ended the period on a 4-1 run as the Penmen held a 12-10 lead after 10 minutes of play.
In the second quarter Concordia would regain the lead after five unanswered points gave them the 15-14 advantage at the 6:07 mark. Southern N.H. Answered back with five straight points of their own as the Penmen ended the half on a 5-2 run to take a 24-19 lead into the locker room.
The Clippers began the third quarter with a scoreless drought over the first 3:22 as the home team opened up a 31-19 advantage. Concordia broke their drought with a 10-5 run to cut their deficit to seven points at the 5:04 mark, 36-29. Southern N.H. ended the quarter with a 9-4 run as the Clippers would trail 49-36.
Concordia began the fourth quarter with a 6-2 run to get within single digits, but the Penmen used a 10-2 run to open up a 61-44 lead with 5:39 to go in the game. The Clippers looked to mount a late comeback as their 9-2 run would bring them within 10 points at 63-53 with three minutes to play. Concordia would not be able to complete the comeback despite their strong three-point shooting as Southern N.H. held on for the 70-61 win.
Sophomore Julianne Wilkinson (Red Hook, N.Y.) led the Clippers with 19 points off the bench which also included a game-high four three-point baskets. Senior Khadijah Donaldson (Valley Stream, N.Y.) added 11 points and five rebounds off the bench while sophomore Hadiyah Black (Brooklyn, N.Y.) finished with a game-high 13 rebounds.
Concordia (3-8) will return to Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) action on Wednesday evening as the Clippers will visit Philadelphia University for their only regular season matchup of the season. Tip-off at the Gallagher Center is set for 5 p.m.
