Clippers Women's Basketball Snaps Losing Skid After a 73-59 Victory at Dowling

OAKDALE, N.Y. – The Concordia Clippers women's basketball team battled the Dowling Golden Lions on Tuesday evening in a non-conference showdown at Dowling Gymnasium. Concordia snapped their four game losing streak as the team captured the 73-59 victory.

In the first quarter the Clippers jumped out to the early 4-0 advantage and would extend their lead to 9-3 at the 6:08 mark. The Golden Lions would hit back-to-back jumpers to cut their deficit to two points, but Concordia responded with a 9-0 run to hold an 18-7 advantage with under three minutes to go in the period. The Clippers maintained their sizable lead after the first quarter with a 20-12 advantage.

Dowling began the second quarter on an 11-2 run as the home team grabbed a 23-22 lead at the 4:02 mark. The lead for the Golden Lions would be short lived as Concordia used a 9-3 run to retake the advantage at 31-26 with 1:37 to go in the half. Dowling ended the period with five unanswered points as the two teams went into the locker room tied at 31-31.

The Clippers began the third quarter with a 7-0 run to regain their advantage at 38-31 at the 6:58 mark. The Golden Lions would not allow Concordia to gain a larger lead as Dowling responded with an 8-2 run to get within a point, 40-39, with 3:44 to go in the period. Both sides managed to score three points apiece in the closing minutes as the Clippers held a 43-42 lead after three periods.

After two quick points to begin the fourth quarter for Concordia, the Golden Lions scored four in a row to take a slim 46-45 advantage at the 8:16 mark. Once again the Clippers would use another run to open up a sizable advantage. Their 19-6 run would open up a double digit lead at 64-52 with 2:23 to go in regulation. Dowling was unable to mount a late comeback as Concordia would hold on for the 73-59 victory.

Junior Jessica Rosalbo (Staten Island, N.Y.) led the Clippers with 21 points which included five three-point baskets. Sophomore Hadiyah Black (Brooklyn, N.Y.) added 13 points and a career-high 19 rebounds for her third double-double of the season while sophomore Julianne Wilkinson (Red Hook, N.Y.) chipped in with 12 points.

Concordia (2-6) will be back in action tomorrow evening as the Clippers will visit Felician University for a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) North Division game.
