Clippers Women's Basketball Puts Up Strong Fight in 61-51 Loss to CACC Powerhouse Bloomfield

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – The Concordia College women's basketball team hosted Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) North Division powerhouse Bloomfield College on Wednesday evening in the Meyer Athletic Center. The Clippers would put up a strong fight against the top team from the preseason CACC coach's poll but the Bears took a 61-51 victory.

Bloomfield came out in the first quarter with a 4-0 lead as Concordia responded with four unanswered points to knot the score at the 6:51 mark. The teams would both use another set of runs to bring the score to 8-8 with 4:23 to go. Both sides remained close on the scoreboard but the Bears ended the quarter on a 5-1 run to hold a 15-11 advantage after 10 minutes of play.

In the second quarter Bloomfield extended their lead to double digits at 26-15 with three minutes to go in the half as the Clippers called timeout. From here Concordia would not allow the Bears to score again in the half. The Clippers managed only four points in that span as Bloomfield went into the locker room with a 26-19 lead.

Concordia would fall behind by 10 points early in the third quarter but an 8-1 run for the home team allowed them to get within three points at 31-28 with 5:12 to go. The Bears broke their scoring drought at the 3:59 mark which began a stretch of six unanswered points. The Clippers concluded the quarter on a 7-4 run as Bloomfield maintained their advantage after three quarters, 41-35.

After an opening three-point basket for the Bears to begin the fourth quarter, Concordia used seven unanswered points to get within a basket at 44-42 with 7:59 remaining. Bloomfield would respond with a 6-2 run to open up some breathing room at 50-44 at the 3:37 mark. The Clippers were unable to mount another comeback in the game as the Bears held on for the 61-51 victory.

Sophomore Hadiyah Black (Brooklyn, N.Y.) led Concordia with 12 points and 11 rebounds for her second double-double of the season as she also added three blocks, three steals, and two assists. Senior Khadijah Donaldson (Valley Stream, N.Y.) came off the bench to score a season-best 11 points and six rebounds while junior Jessica Rosalbo (Staten Island, N.Y.) chipped in with 10 points, four rebounds, and two steals.

The Clippers (1-4, 0-3 CACC) will now be on the road for their next seven games beginning on Saturday, December 5th.
