Women's Basketball Earns First Win of Season, 74-67 at Home Against P.R.-Bayamon

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – The Concordia College women's basketball team captured their first win of the season on Friday evening as the Clippers secured a 74-67 victory in the Meyer Athletic Center against the University of Puerto Rico at Bayamon in non-conference action.

The Clippers came out scoring the first eight points of the first quarter to take the early advantage. A 12-0 run for Concordia would propel them to a 22-6 lead with 3:04 left in the quarter. The Cowgirls ended the quarter with a 10-4 run as the Clippers maintained a 26-16 advantage.

In the second quarter both teams would trade baskets as neither side was able to put together a scoring run. Concordia would keep their lead and increase it at halftime as the Clippers ended the quarter with four unanswered points to go into the locker room with a 39-27 lead.

Concordia scored an opening three-point basket to begin the third quarter but P.R.-Bayamon used an 8-0 run to cut their deficit to seven points at 42-35 with 7:09 left on the clock. The Cowgirls would continue to chip away to close out the quarter as their 11-4 run to end the period brought the score to 56-52 in favor of the Clippers.

P.R.-Bayamon would score the opening points of the fourth quarter to get within two points but Concordia used a 9-2 run to gain some breathing room at 65-56 with 5:54 to go. The Cowgirls would attempt a late comeback but the Clippers used solid ball control and managed the clock to secure the 74-67 victory.

Junior Jessica Rosalbo (Staten Island, N.Y.) led Concordia with 18 points as sophomore Hadiyah Black (Brooklyn, N.Y.) recorded a double-double with 14 points and a team-high 11 rebounds. Freshman Courtney Fleming (Brooklyn, N.Y.) came off the bench to score a career-high 13 points as sophomore Julianne Wilkinson (Red Hook, N.Y.) added 12 points.

The Clippers (1-2) will return to their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) schedule on Tuesday evening for a CACC North Division matchup at Caldwell University.
