BRONXVILLE, N.Y. - Junior Khadijah Donaldson (Valley Stream, N.Y.) scored a career-high 16 points for the Concordia College women's basketball team on Tuesday evening to help guide the Clippers to a 66-64 victory over Nyack College in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) North Division showdown.
The Warriors took control of the scoreboard early in the first half with a 9-2 lead until a 10-2 run for Concordia gave the Clippers their first lead at 12-11 with 14:54 remaining in the period. Nyack responded with a short run to regain a five point advantage but Concordia would keep the score close. The teams would trade leads for much of the first half as they went into the locker room tied at 36-36.
In the second half the Clippers would use five unanswered points to take a 43-40 lead but were not able to open up a sizable lead. The Warriors would continue to stick around and a 6-0 run for the away team gave them a 51-47 lead midway through the period.
From here Donaldson would take over for Concordia as she scored 12 straight points for the Clippers to keep them in the game. A layup for Khadijah with 2:31 remaining on the clock would put Concordia ahead 64-62. After Nyack tied the game the Clippers held the ball with a chance at a last second shot. Sophomore Jessica Rosalbo (Staten Island, N.Y.) came off a screen at the top of the key and pulled up for an elbow jumper with 3.2 seconds to go to knock down the game-winning shot for Concordia.
Donaldson recorded her 16 points off the bench in only 15 minutes of action while Rosalbo led the starters with 13 points while adding four rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Freshman Julianne Wilkinson (Red Hook, N.Y.) added 11 points off the bench while freshman Hadiyah Black (Brooklyn, N.Y.) chipped in with six points and a team-high nine rebounds.
As a team the Clippers shot 46.3% from the field as the Warriors shot 35.8% in the game. Nyack held a 39-33 rebounding advantage while Concordia outscored the Warriors in the paint, 38-26. The win for the Clippers snaps an eight game losing skid.
Concordia (4-17, 4-10 CACC) will be on the road for their next three consecutive games.
