BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – The Concordia College women's basketball team defeated Goldey-Beacom College on Saturday afternoon in the Meyer Athletic Center, 70-66. The Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) victory for the Clippers snaps a 33-game losing skid.
The first half saw the Lightning begin with a 10-3 advantage as Concordia would use a 6-0 run to cut the deficit to a point. Goldey-Beacom responded with 10 unanswered points as the Clippers would fall behind by double-digits with 10:27 remaining on the clock. Concordia would bounce back again with a 6-0 run of their own and with 3:09 left in the half the Clippers would take their first lead of the afternoon, 30-29.
Concordia closed out the period on a 7-0 run, capped off by a three-point buzzer beater by sophomore Jessica Rosalbo (Staten Island, N.Y.) as the Clippers went into the locker room with a 40-33 advantage.
In the second half the Lightning came out with six unanswered points as Concordia knocked down their first basket of the half on a three-point basket by freshman Kayla Ortiz (Brooklyn, N.Y.). Both teams would battle in the second half with both sides unable to gain a sizable advantage on the scoreboard.
Goldey-Beacom would hold a 61-54 lead with 8:39 to play as a 10-4 for the Clippers would cut the deficit to a point at 65-64 with four minutes to play. The Lightning managed only one more points to end the game as Rosalbo scored Concordia's final five points to give the Clippers the 70-66 win. The victory is Christie Tomasino's first win as a collegiate head coach.
Rosalbo led Concordia with a team-high 17 points, a game-high five assists, while adding four rebounds and two steals. Freshman Julianne Wilkinson (Red Hook, N.Y.) came off the bench to score 12 points while junior Khadijah Donaldson (Valley Stream, N.Y.) recorded a career-high 12 points and added nine rebounds.
The Clippers shot 44.8% from the field in the game while Goldey-Beacom shot 30.2%. Concordia held a 48-34 rebounding advantage as well as a the Clippers also held a 32-20 advantage in bench points.
Concordia (1-6, 1-2 CACC) will host Southern Conn. St. for a non-conference game on Monday, December 8th. Tip-off is set for 5 p.m. as fans unable to attend can follow the action by accessing the live stats and video links under the women's basketball schedule page on ConcordiaClippers.com.
