WEST CHESTER, Pa. – The Concordia College women's basketball team kicked off their 2014-15 season at the Carol Eckman Memorial Tournament hosted by West Chester University on Friday evening. The Clippers could not come away with the victory at Hollinger Fieldhouse as the Golden Rams won the game 102-55.
The first half began with both teams neck-and-neck on the scoreboard as Concordia held a slim lead at 7-6 after a layup by sophomore Rebecca Gordon (Patchogue, N.Y.) 2:02 into the game. West Chester would then go on a 18-2 run to take a 24-9 advantage with 13:30 remaining on the game clock. Sophomore Victoria Rubin (Staten Island, N.Y.) stopped the drought for the Clippers with a three-point basket as the Golden Rams would continue to open up their lead. At the half Concordia would go into the locker room trailing 66-22.
In the second half West Chester would maintain the advantage as Clippers' freshman Julianne Wilkinson (Red Hook, N.Y.) looked to get the team back into contention with 11 points in the half including two three-point baskets. The deficit proved to be too much for Concordia as the Golden Rams would claim the 102-55 win over the Clippers.
Wilkinson led Concordia with 17 points off the bench as she also had a team-best three steals in her first collegiate game. Freshman Hadiyah Black (Brooklyn, N.Y.) also had an impressive first-game performance for the Clippers off the bench as she had seven points and a team-high 10 rebounds.
As a team Concordia shot 35.7% from the field and 69.2% from the foul line. West Chester out-rebounded the Clippers 47-29 as Concordia's 30 turnovers in the game led to 46 points for the Golden Rams.
The Clippers (0-1) will conclude their visit at the Carol Eckman Memorial Tournament with a matchup against Indiana (Pa.) tomorrow afternoon. Concordia's game is set to begin at 2 p.m. back at the Hollinger Fieldhouse on the campus of West Chester University.
