Wilmington, Del. – The Concordia College women's basketball team visited Goldey-Beacom College for a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) game on Saturday afternoon. After only trailing by a point at halftime the Clippers were unable to capture the win as the Lightning earned a 71-53 victory at the Jones Center.
Concordia began the game scoring the first four straight points but Goldey-Beacom would respond with a 15-0 run to hold a 15-4 lead with 14:46 remaining on the clock. The Clippers would then respond with a 12-2 run to get within a point mid-way through the first half. Concordia would regain the lead at 25-24 and then opened up a 30-26 advantage with just over two minutes remaining in the half. The Lightning ended the period scoring six of the next seven points to go into the locker room with a 32-31 edge.
In the second half the Clippers would score the first four points again as Goldey-Beacom responded with a 9-0 run to take a 41-35 lead. Concordia would keep the score close for the first seven minutes of the half until the Lightning rallied off a 10-2 run to grab an 11-point advantage. The Clippers were unable to catch up in the latter minutes as Goldey-Beacom ended the game scoring 14 of the last 16 points to secure a 71-53 victory, their fifth of the season.
For the second straight game junior Alyssa Dawson (Westwood, N.J.) recorded a new career-best in points as she scored 24 points while adding nine rebounds. Freshman Jessica Rosalbo (Staten Island, N.Y.) tied her career-high with 14 points for Concordia while freshman Victoria Rubin (Staten Island, N.Y.) recorded 10 rebounds to tie her career-best.
The Lightning shot 33.8% in the game from the field while the Clippers shot 32.8%. Goldey-Beacom held a 53-38 rebounding advantage while Concordia held a 14-11 edge in assists.
The Clippers (0-11, 0-4 CACC) will have over a week off until their next game. Concordia will visit Caldwell on Wednesday, Dec. 18th as the Clippers will play in their final game on the 2013 calendar year.
