Women's Basketball Drops 73-42 Decision to East Stroudsburg at 49th Annual ESU Classic

East Stroudsburg, Pa. – The Concordia women's basketball team played in their first of two games at the 49th Annual ESU Classic on Saturday evening. The Clippers battled the hosts, East Stroudsburg, as the Warriors would go on to take a 73-42 victory and their second win of the season.

East Stroudsburg began the first half with an early 6-0 lead as the Warriors opened up a 12-2 advantage four minutes into the game. Concordia would go on a cold streak as the team would only score two field goals over the next seven minutes as East Stroudsburg opened up a 23-6 advantage. The Clippers were out-scored 8-0 over the last two minutes in the first half as the Warriors went into the locker room with a 41-14 lead.

In the second half Concordia scored the first basket but East Stroudsburg responded with 14 unanswered points to hold a 55-17 advantage. Later in the half the Clippers used a 16-4 run to cut into their deficit but it would not be enough as the Warriors would go on to take a 73-42 win.

Junior Mariah Berry (Southington, Conn.) led Concordia with a season-high 14 points off the bench while junior Megan Burns (Staten Island, N.Y.) added seven points. East Stroudsburg shot 37.8% from the field in the game while the Clippers shot 24.1%. The Warriors held a 50-42 rebounding advantage and also held a 40-25 advantage in bench scoring.

Concordia (0-7, 0-2 CACC) will be back in action tomorrow afternoon in their final game at the ESU Classic. The Clippers will take on Saint Anselm with tip-off set for 1 p.m. as fans can follow the action via the live stats link under the women's basketball schedule page on ConcordiaClippers.com.
