Women's Basketball Drops 112-46 Decision at Adelphi in Season Opener

Garden City, N.Y. – The Concordia Clippers women's basketball team opened up their 2013-14 season with a non-conference game at Adelphi University on Saturday afternoon. The Panthers would go on to take a 112-46 victory over Concordia at the Center for Recreation and Sport.

The Clippers would sink their opening shot of the afternoon as Adelphi responded with a 9-0 run and then stretched their lead to double-digits following a three-point basket at the 14:47 mark. Concordia would end the opening half with only three points in the last five minutes as the Panthers went into the locker room with a 56-28 lead.

In the second half Adelphi began with five unanswered points and would take a 70-30 lead with 16:23 remaining. The Clippers would go scoreless for 6:03 in the middle of the half as they were not able to recover. The Panthers would go on to take a 112-46 victory after shooting 58.3% from the field as compared to Concordia's 24.5% in the game.

Junior Alyssa Dawson (Westwood, N.J.) and freshman Jessica Rosalbo (Staten Island, N.Y.) both led the Clippers with 10 points a piece. Freshman Victoria Rubin (Staten Island, N.Y.) came off the bench to score six points in her collegiate debut while freshman Rebecca Gordon (Patchogue, N.Y.) scored eight points in her first game.

Adelphi held a 45-26 rebounding advantage as the Panthers scored 42 points off turnovers and outscored Concordia's bench 40-6.

The Clippers (0-1) will be back in action on Monday evening with a road contest against non-conference opponent Southern Conn.
