Bronxville, N.Y. – The Clippers women's basketball team battled Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) North Division foe Bloomfield College for the second time in two weeks on Wednesday evening. Concordia would have another tough matchup with the Deacons but in the end the Clippers would edge out a 64-62 victory and capture their fifth win in the past six games.
Bloomfield began the evening jumping out to a 6-1 lead as Concordia would trail for much of the opening 20 minutes. The Deacons would go on a 6-0 run to take a 22-13 lead with 7:28 left in the half. The Clippers would fall farther behind and at halftime would go into the locker room trailing 39-26.
Concordia came out in the second half with 18 unanswered points to take a 44-39 lead. Bloomfield did not score their first points in the half until a layup at the 11:08 mark. The Clippers held a four point advantage until a 9-0 run by the Deacons gave Bloomfield a 53-48 lead with 5:58.
Over the next five minutes Concordia would outscore the Deacons by a margin of 11-2 to gain a four point lead with less then a minute to play. The Clippers were fouled with 22 seconds left and knocked down both foul shots to gain a three-point lead. In Bloomfield's next possession they would knock down a three-point basket to tie the game at 62-62 with 10 seconds remaining.
On the ensuing possession for Concordia, the Deacons' Ivettlis Castro thought Bloomfield was still trailing in the game and fouled the Clippers' Krystina Agard (Queens, N.Y.) in the back court. Agard would knock down both foul shots to give Concordia a two point lead. A last second shot by the Deacons would not fall as the Clippers held on for a 64-62 win.
Sophomore Mariah Berry (Southington, Conn.) and Agard both led Concordia with 15 points apiece. Agard would also add 11 rebounds while junior Victoria Jones (Staten Island, N.Y.) chipped in with 12 points and eight rebounds. The Clippers scored 32 points in the paint but were outrebounded 48-36 in the game.
Concordia (7-15, 6-8 CACC) will return to the court on Saturday afternoon as they will host Georgian Court University at 12pm for their only game this regular season. Fans unable to attend the game can follow the action via Live Stats and Live Video on ConcordiaClippers.com.
