Bronxville, N.Y. – The Clippers women's basketball team took on the Wilmington University (Del.) Wildcats on Saturday afternoon in their only Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) regular season matchup this year. Senior Krystina Agard (Queens, N.Y.) and junior Victoria Jones (Staten Island, N.Y.) would combine for 57 points to lead the Clippers to an 83-77 victory, their fourth straight.
Concordia began the afternoon down early, 9-3, as the team struggled to find their rhythm offensively. The Clippers would find their composure and cut into the Wildcat lead and by the 11:47 mark the game was tied in the middle of a 12-0 run by Concordia as they took a 23-18 lead. Wilmington would respond with 11 unanswered points of their own as both teams would go into the locker room with 44 points at the break.
The second half would be closely contested as well with neither team grabbing an advantage in the early going. The Clippers would hold a five point lead with 5:15 left on the clock and the Wildcats would drain a three-point shot at the 3:24 mark to cut the deficit to only two points. Wilmington would then tie the score at 77-77 following a three-point basket with 1:13 remaining.
Agard would draw a foul with 38 seconds left and she knocked down both baskets as Concordia took a two-point lead. The Wildcats were unable to score on their next possession and resorted to fouling for the remainder of the game but the Clippers would knock down four more free throws to secure an 83-77 victory.
Agard led Concordia with 34 points which included a perfect 12-of-12 performance from the foul line, and 17 rebounds while Jones added 23 points on 9-of-13 shooting from the field and 11 rebounds. Both players recorded personal best in points as members of the Clippers while Agard's rebound totals were also a career-high at Concordia. Sophomore Anjali Moncrieffe (Brooklyn, N.Y.) came off the bench to score 10 points as the Clippers have now won four straight games for the first time since the 1986-87 season according to historical records.
Concordia (6-14, 5-7 CACC) will be off for a week until they travel to face Chestnut Hill College in a CACC crossover game on Saturday, February 2nd.
