Rutherford, N.J. – The Clippers women's basketball team got back to their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) schedule on Wednesday evening with a matchup against Felician College. The game would mark the fifth straight road game for Concordia and the Golden Falcons' home opener as the closely fought battled would go in favor of Felician, 63-61.
The Clippers began the game jumping out to an early 12-2 lead in the first seven minutes of play as the Golden Falcons would struggle in the early going. Following back-to-back three-point baskets by Concordia, Felician would score six unanswered points to tie the game at 20-20 as the Clippers were held scoreless for 3:45. Neither team would gain an advantage in the closing minutes but a three-point basket by Concordia sophomore KellyAnn Sullivan (Amity Harbor, N.Y.) would give the team a 32-30 lead into the locker room.
In the second half the Clippers would not relinquish their lead until the Golden Falcons connected on a jump shot with 1:13 remaining in the game to take a 61-59 advantage. In Concordia's next possession, they would miss an opportunity to tie the game after missing a layup and were forced to foul. Felician knocked down both foul shots to take a four point lead. The Clippers would score off a jumper by sophomore Anjali Moncrieffe (Brooklyn, N.Y.) with two seconds left on the clock but the team would run out of time as the Golden Falcons grabbed their first victory of the season, 63-61.
Senior Krystina Agard (Queens, N.Y.) led Concordia with a team-high 14 points and 11 rebounds on 5-of-11 shooting from the field in 38 minutes of action. Junior Tara-Ann Rock (Queens, N.Y.) added 12 points, all of which came off three-point baskets, while junior Victoria Jones (Staten Island, N.Y.) and sophomore Alyssa Dawson (Westwood, N.J.) added 11 and 10 points respectively. The Clippers scored a season-high nine three-points baskets but committed 20 turnovers in the game which led to 25 points for Felician.
Concordia (1-7, 0-3 CACC) will host Goldey-Beacom College in their only regular season meeting this Friday evening. The Clippers will take to the court of the Meyer Athletic Center at 5pm as fans unable to attend can follow the action via Live Stats and Live Video on ConcordiaClippers.com.
