Flushing, N.Y. – The Clippers women's basketball team played in their second game of the Clarion LaGuardia Tip-Off Tournament hosted by Queens (N.Y.) College. Concordia battled The College of Saint Rose at the Townsend Harris High School as the Golden Knights overcame a one-point halftime deficit to capture their second win of the season, 57-52.
The Clippers began the game trailing St. Rose but a three-point basket by sophomore KellyAnn Sullivan (Amity Harbor, N.Y.) at the 9:12 mark tied the score at 15-15. The Golden Knights would then go on a 10-0 run to take their first double digit lead of the afternoon.
In the last three and a half minutes of the first half Concordia would score 12 points as compared to only one for St. Rose to take a 27-26 lead into the locker room. Senior Krystina Agard (Queens, N.Y.) would net 12 points to lead all scores after 20 minutes of play as the Clippers only connected on nine field goals, five of which were three-point baskets.
Concordia would maintain their lead in the opening minutes in the second half until eight unanswered points by the Golden Knights gave them a 47-40 lead at the 9:25 mark. Senior Sade Jones (Patterson, N.J.) would help the Clippers get within two points after a layup with 7:21 remaining as the team looked to take the lead back.
St. Rose would then score eight straight points again to gain a double digit lead with 4:13 left in the half. Concordia would score in back-to-back possessions but were unable to score any points in the last 2:27 as the Golden Knights held on for a 57-52 victory. St. Rose's win now gives them a 19-2 advantage in the all-time series since the 1984-85 season.
Jones and Agard led the Clippers in scoring with 16 and 15 points respectively. Agard would add a team-high nine rebounds while Jones recorded a game-high five steals and a team-high three assists. St. Rose's bench would outscore Concordia's bench 20-7 as the Clippers shot 52.9% (9-17) from the foul line.
Concordia (0-2, 0-0 CACC) will host Dominican (N.Y.) in their opening Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) game on Wednesday, Nov. 14th.
