Bronxville, NY – The Concordia College Clippers women's basketball team battled Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) South Division opponent Holy Family this afternoon. After trailing the top team in the CACC by only three points at the half, the Clippers were unable to upset the Tigers as they won for their 18th time this season, 73-61.
Holy Family jumped out to an early lead to begin the game in the opening minutes. The Tigers went on a 9-0 run to take a 23-15 lead with 10:43 to play in the first half. Concordia responded with back-to-back three-point baskets by Krystina Agard (Queens, NY) and Mariah Berry (Southington, CT) and then a jump shot to tie the game.
The Tigers countered with seven straight points over a five minute span to gain their lead back. The Clippers closed out the remaining two minutes of the half with an 8-4 run as they trailed 34-31 going into the locker room.
Holy Family came out in the second half on fire as they began with 10 straight points. Concordia looked to Agard to get them back into the game as she scored nine straight points for the Clippers. The offense for the Tigers kept scoring at-will as they held a 62-44 lead with 7:57 remaining in the game.
Concordia finished the last minutes of the half driving down the lane to draw fouls and get to the foul line. It would be too little too late as Holy Family held the Clippers down the stretch to win for the 14th time in CACC play.
Agard led Concordia in scoring with 24 points which included four three-point baskets and an 8-of-10 performance from the foul line. Agard also added seven assists, four rebounds, a steal and a block in 40 minutes of playing time. Berry finished in double figures for the third consecutive game as she added 10 points while Chanessa Blakemore (Albany, NY) led the team with 12 rebounds and four blocks. As a team, the Clippers shot 32.8% (19-of-58) from the floor as they were outrebounded by a margin of 57-37.
Concordia (7-17, 6-11 CACC) will be on the road for their next game. The Clippers will have a week off as the team will battle Goldey-Beacom College on Saturday, Feb. 18th for a 1pm game.
