Concordia Unable to Hold off Post in 72-68 Defeat

Waterbury, CT – The Concordia College Clippers women's basketball team battled Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) North Division foe Post University this evening. After holding a 13 point lead at the half, the Clippers were unable to keep their lead as the Eagles won 72-68 for their sixth victory of the season.

Concordia began the game jumping out to an early lead as their three-point shooting helped to gain a 10 point advantage on the scoreboard. The Clippers held the double digit lead until Post went on a 6-0 run to get within four points at the 6:54 mark in the first period. Concordia built their lead back to double digits as they went into the locker room with a 40-27 lead.

In the beginning of the second half, the Clippers kept their lead and held a 51-36 advantage with 16:00 remaining in the game. After a layup by Alyssa Dawson (Westwood, NJ), the Eagles scored 10 unanswered points to get within five points of tying the game. Concordia responded with a 5-0 run to get their double digit lead back but it would not last for long.

Post would score eight straight points as they took the lead with a layup and 6:08 remaining in the game. The Eagles would continue to make shots as they led 68-61 with two minutes left and time running out for the Clippers. A three-point basket by Megan Burns (Staten Island, NY) with 15 seconds remaining brought them within two points of tying.

Concordia was then forced to foul Post in hopes to get the ball back and have a chance to tie the game. The foul shooter for the Eagles made both free throws and the Clippers were unable to make their shot on the next possession as time expired.

Krystina Agard (Queens, NY) led Concordia in scoring with 20 points while adding four assists, three rebounds and a steal. As a team, the Clippers shot 38.5% (25-of-65) from the floor as they were outrebounded by a margin of 56-35.
