Concordia’s Second Half Run Falls Short in 84-78 Defeat to Felician

Bronxville, NY – The Concordia College Clippers women's basketball team battled Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) North Division opponent Felician College this evening. After trailing at the half, the Clippers attempted a second half comeback which fell short. The Golden Falcons edge Concordia, 84-78, for their 12th win of the season.

Felician began the game by taking an early five point lead after back-to-back three-point baskets. This sparked a 20-2 run as Concordia trailed 28-11 with 9:51 remaining in the half. The Clippers stepped up their aggression on the offensive end as they got opportunities from the foul line. After two free throws by Krystina Agard (Queens, NY) at the 2:21 mark, Concordia was only behind by 10 points. The Clippers ended the half on a 6-2 run to go into the locker room with a single digit deficit, 43-35.

Early in the second half, Concordia was unable to cut into the Golden Falcons lead until Tara-Ann Rock (Queens, NY) hit a three-point basket to get the team within four points. Two successful free throw shots by Chanessa Blakemore (Albany, NY) at the 9:23 mark got the Clippers within a point of tying the game.

Felician responded with a 7-0 run to gain their lead back. Staying with their aggression, Concordia sank two free throws with 4:36 remaining to trail 72-67. Five more free throw baskets allowed the Clippers to get within three points of tying with 2:17 left on the clock.

Both teams traded free throw shots during the next few seconds as Concordia had the ball with 1:33 remaining. The Clippers would miss their opportunity to get any closer as they missed the shot on their possession and had to foul. Time ran out on Concordia as the Golden Falcons would hold on for their ninth conference win of the season.

Agard led the Clippers in scoring with 18 points on 14-of-14 shooting from the foul line. She also had seven rebounds, four assists, three blocks and two steal in 36 minutes of action. Blakemore chipped in with 17 points and 18 rebounds for her 12th double-double of the season. Sade Jones (Patterson, NJ) and Mariah Berry (Southington, CT) both finished the game in double figures as they scored 15 and 12 points, respectively. As a team, Concordia shot 35.7% (20-of-56) from the field and turned the ball over 24 times.

The Clippers (6-14, 5-8 CACC) will be on the road this Saturday, February 4th, to battle Philadelphia U. Concordia and the Rams will take to the court of the Gallagher Center at 2pm.
