Bronxville, NY – The Concordia College Clippers women's basketball team took on Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) foe Post University this evening. The Clippers attempted to erase a 23 point first-half deficit but came up short, falling 83-74 to the Eagles.
Post began the game scoring early to take a 9-2 lead as Concordia was unable to hit shots in the early going. Sade Jones (Patterson, NJ) made back-to-back shots for the Clippers to get within four points after five minutes of action. The Eagles used their outside shooting to increase their lead to double digits midway through the half.
A three-point basket by Concordia's Megan Burns (Staten Island, NY) got the Clippers back to within 10 points with 7:44 remaining in the period. Post then ended the half on a 19-6 run as they went into the locker room with a 46-23 lead.
Concordia came out in the second half showing more aggression as the team now looked to drive down the lane and draw fouls. The Clippers began the second half on a 25-9 run over seven minutes and thirty-four seconds to get back within single digits at 55-48. The Eagles responded with a run of their own to get their double digit lead back.
With 5:56 to go, Krystina Agard (Queens, NY) knocked down two free throws to cut Post's lead to only 10. Concordia battled hard and got within six points of tying after a layup by Anjali Moncrieffe (Brooklyn, NY). The Eagles closed out the game converting on their free throw attempts as they secured their fourth win of the season.
Agard led the Clippers in scoring as she scored 23 points including 13-of-14 from the foul line. Agard also had three rebounds, a block, a steal and an assist in 37 minutes of action. Chanessa Blakemore (Albany, NY) recorded her 11th double-double of the season as she scored 16 points and grabbed 13 rebounds. As a team, Concordia shot 34.3% (24-of-70) from the field as they were outrebounded 45-35.
The Clippers (5-13, 4-7 CACC) will have a few days until their next game. This Saturday Concordia will be hosting USciences at 1pm in the Meyer Athletic Center.
