Concordia Falls to Dominican for Second Time, 68-59

Bronxville, NY – The Concordia College Clippers women's basketball team welcomed Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) rival Dominican College to the Meyer Athletic Center this evening. In their second meeting of the season, the Chargers won 68-59 despite a near triple-double by Concordia's Chanessa Blakemore (Albany, NY).

Both teams began the game looking to gain an edge on the scoreboard as both teams were matched point-for-point. Midway through the first half, the Clippers were able to go on a 10-2 run to take a six point lead with 9:36 to go. Dominican responded with a 13-2 run over a span of six minutes to take a 30-23 lead. Both teams only made one field goal in the remaining two minutes of the half as the Chargers went into the locker room with a 32-25 lead.

In the second half, Concordia began to chip away at their deficit and they got within five points after a layup by Krystina Agard (Queens, NY) with 16:34 to go. Dominican managed to keep the Clippers behind on the scoreboard but Concordia gave them a run for their money in the closing minutes.

The Clippers got within four points after another layup by Agard with 7:20 remaining. The Chargers then shot 7-of-8 from the foul line in their next four trips to the foul line to keep their lead. With 2:53 to go, Blakemore made a layup for Concordia to get them back within four points of tying the game. Dominican drained a three point shot with under two minutes to play as it secured the win, their seventh of the season.

Sade Jones (Patterson, NJ) led the Clippers in scoring as she knocked down 19 points including 4-of-5 from behind the three point arc. Jones also had four assists, three rebounds and a steal in 34 minutes of action. Blakemore missed a triple-double by only one block as she finished with 15 points, 17 rebounds and nine blocks. As a team, Concordia shot 34.4% (22-of-64) from the field as the Clippers' bench was outscored 27-11 by the Chargers.

Concordia (5-12, 4-6 CACC) will next travel to face conference opponent Wilmington (DE) this Saturday. Tip-off at Pratt Gymnasium is set for 1pm in New Castle, DE.
