Bloomfield, NJ – The Concordia College Clippers women's basketball team were back on the road this evening to face Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) opponent Bloomfield College. After holding a lead at the half the Clippers were outscored 41-20 in the second half, falling to the Deacons 71-51.
Concordia began the game down early as Bloomfield made their first two shots of the game but managed to tie the game at 10-10 after a three-point basket by Sade Jones (Patterson, NJ). The Deacons then went on an 8-1 run only to have the Clippers counter with 14 unanswered points to take a seven point lead with 4:44 remaining in the half.
Emily Hall (Montclair, NJ) scored seven straight points for Bloomfield to get them within two points of the lead near the end of the first period. The Deacons would take a one point lead after a layup with under a minute to go. Jones made a jump shot to end the half for Concordia as they took a 31-30 lead into the locker room.
In the second half, Bloomfield went on a 14-4 run during the first seven minutes and fifteen seconds. With the lead in hand, the Deacons increased their lead to double digits with 11:19 to go after two successful free throw shots.
Tara-Ann Rock (Queens, NY) got the Clippers back to within single digits of the lead after a three-point shot. Bloomfield went on a hot streak and scored 16 unanswered points in a span of three minutes and thirty seconds to take a 65-40 lead with 6:24 to go.
The deficit for Concordia was too much to overcome as they were unable to stop Bloomfield. Hall finished the game with a game-high 22 points for the Deacons as three players finished in double figures in the victory, their seventh.
Chanessa Blakemore (Albany, NY) led the Clippers with 14 points and 12 rebounds for her ninth double-double of the season. She also added five steals, two blocks and a steal in 39 minutes of action. Rock added 12 points off the bench and chipped in with two rebounds and two assists. As a team, Concordia shot 28.8% (17-of-59) from the field as the Clippers committed 24 turnovers that led to 19 points for Bloomfield.
Concordia (5-11, 4-5 CACC) will have some time to rest until their next game is played as they will next host Dominican College on Wednesday, January 18th. The Clippers will take to the court at 5pm in the Meyer Athletic Center on the campus of Concordia College.
