Clippers Use Second Half Comeback to Win 69-65 over Chestnut Hill

Bronxville, NY – The Concordia College Clippers women's basketball team battled Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) opponent the Chestnut Hill Griffins this afternoon. After trailing at the half, the Clippers used solid free throw shooting to capture their fourth win of the season, 69-65.

The Griffins began the game shooting high percentage shots as they took an early 8-2 lead four minutes into the half. Concordia then began getting into foul trouble as they sent Chestnut Hill to the line on straight possessions and the Griffins extended their lead to 10.

The Clippers then went on a 12-4 run over a span of five minutes and seventeen seconds to cut the deficit to only two points. A three-point shot by Concordia's Sade Jones (Patterson, NJ) tied the game at 29-29 with 2:35 remaining in the first half. Both teams battled right down to the end of the period as Chestnut Hill knocked down a three-point shot with seven seconds remaining to give them a 35-33 edge at the half.

In the second half, Jones and Krystina Agard (Queens, NY) combined to score the Clippers' first 10 points as they took a 41-35 lead. The Griffins rallied to tie the score at 43-43 and then were able to take a six point lead with just over nine minutes remaining.

For a majority of the final nine minutes Concordia was behind on the scoreboard but managed to tie the game and take a one point lead after a three-point play by Jones at the 1:36 mark. Chestnut Hill made a layup on their next possession to retake the lead at 63-62. The Clippers responded with a three-point basket by Tara-Ann Rock (Queens, NY) with only 50 seconds remaining.

On the Griffins' next possession, they turned the ball over and were forced to foul. Concordia knocked down both free throws to extend their lead to four points. Chestnut Hill attempted another shot with under 10 seconds but missed as the Clippers secured the 69-65 win.

Agard and Jones both led Concordia with 20 points apiece. Agard added seven rebounds, five steals, five assists and two blocks while Jones chipped in with six rebounds and shot 4-of-6 from beyond the three-point line. As a team, the Clippers shot 38.8% (19-of-49) from the field while shooting 72.7% (24-of-33) from the foul line. The bench for Chestnut Hill outscored Concordia's bench 36-11 while the Clippers outrebounded the Griffins 42-31.

Concordia (4-10, 3-4 CACC) will be on the road for their next game as they will travel to Nyack College on Tuesday, January 10th. The Clippers will tip-off their game at 6pm at the Bowman Center.
