Clippers Fall to Kentucky’s Bellarmine University, 73-55

Bronxville, NY – The Concordia College Clippers women's basketball team welcomed Bellarmine University to the Meyer Athletic Center this evening in their first ever meeting. After a close first half, the Knights ran away in the final 20 minutes to win 73-55 for their sixth victory of the season.

The Clippers jumped out to an early 10-0 lead as the Knights did not score a basket until 14:25 remained in the half. Concordia kept their lead at double digits until Bellarmine went on a 15-0 run in a span of four minutes and twenty-seven seconds to take a 20-15 lead.

The three-point shooting for the Clippers allowed them to get the lead back as Concordia went into the locker room with a 33-29 advantage. The Clippers credited an up-tempo style of play early in the period to take the early lead.

When the teams came back for the second half, the Knights managed to take the lead at 42-41 after a jump shot five minutes and twenty-five seconds into the period. Concordia kept the game close as Bellarmine was unable to extend their lead for much of the second half.

After two free throws with 6:46 remaining, the Clippers found themselves down by three points but that was as close as they would get. The Knights then went on a 20-5 run for the remainder of the half to secure the win.

Senior Chanessa Blakemore (Albany, NY) scored a team-high 15 points and 12 rebounds for her sixth double-double of the season. She also recorded an impressive seven blocks along with two steals and an assist. Megan Burns (Staten Island, NY) and Sade Jones (Patterson, NJ) both scored 12 points on a combined 9-of-19 shooting from the field which included all six of Concordia's three-point baskets. As a team, the Clippers shot 33.9% (21-of-62) from the field while being outrebounded 52-36.

The Clippers (3-9, 2-3 CACC) now has three weeks off for the holiday break. The team will be back in action on Thursday, January 5th for a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) game against Caldwell College.
