Concordia Comes up Short in 72-65 Defeat to Dominican

Orangeburg, NY – The Concordia College Clippers women's basketball team looked to break into the win column in conference play as they traveled to Dominican College this afternoon. After holding a halftime lead, the Clippers were unable to capture the victory as the Chargers edged out a win, 72-65.

Early in the first half, Concordia led 7-3 after a three-point basket by junior Krystina Agard (Queens, NY). Dominican would then go on a 7-0 run to take the lead as both teams battled throughout the half to gain an advantage on the scoreboard.

With 2:31 remaining in the half, the Clippers called a timeout with the game tied 32-32 in hopes to finish the period on a high note. Concordia would end the half on a 6-1 run to go into the locker room with a 38-33 lead.

In the second half, the Clippers would not relinquish the lead until the 15 minute mark after the Chargers converted on two free throws. With Dominican back in the game, Concordia's last lead came with 12:28 remaining after Agard sank a free throw.

Following the made shot, the Chargers went on a 16-5 run in the next seven minutes to force a timeout by the Clippers to slow the momentum.

After a successful three-point basket by Agard, Concordia was within four points with just under a minute to play. The lead would be too much to overcome as Dominican converted on five of their six free throw opportunities to secure their second win of the season.

Agard led the Clippers with 26 points including shooting 11-of-15 from the foul line while adding five rebounds and four assists. Junior Sade Jones (Patterson, NJ) added 11 points as she shot 4-of-13 from the field. As a team, Concordia shot 36.1% (22-of-61) from the field while outscoring the Chargers 16-6 on second chance points. The bench for Dominican outscored the Clippers' bench 31-11 in the game.

Concordia (1-7, 0-2 CACC) will play their first conference home game on Tuesday, December 6th. The Clippers will host Nyack for a 5pm game which will take place in the Meyer Athletic Center on the campus of Concordia College.
