NYIT Wins 86-71 to Spoil Concordia's Home Opener

Bronxville, NY – The Concordia College Clippers women's basketball played their first home game of the season this evening as they welcomed the Bears of New York Institute of Technology to the Meyer Athletic Center. After a close first half, the Bears were able to edge the Clippers 86-71 for their second win of the season.

Concordia began the game on a 12-3 run as they made six of their first eight shots. With 8:17 remaining in the first, Concordia held a 10 point lead but NYIT went on a 21-3 run in a span of 3:44 to take an eight point lead. The Bears extended their lead and went into the locker room with a 47-33 lead.

The Clippers attempted a second half comeback as they took 12 three-point attempts and were able to convert on half of them. Midway through, Concordia was down 12 after making their second straight three-point shot.

NYIT would go on an 8-2 run following the basket to extend their lead to 18 with seven minutes to play. The lead was too much for the Clippers to overcome as they were unable to close the gap.

Senior Chanessa Blakemore (Albany, NY) led Concordia with 21 points on 7-of-13 shooting from the field and added a team-high 12 rebounds for her third straight double-double. Junior Krystina Agard (Queens, NY) added 15 points, nine assists and six rebounds while junior Sade Jones (Patterson NJ) dropped 14 points. As a team, the Clippers shot 41.9% (26-of-62) from the field and shot perfect from the free throw line (12-of-12). NYIT managed to outscore Concordia on points off turnovers (32-to-15) and points in the paint (34-to-28).

The Clippers (1-3, 0-0 CACC) will be back in action this weekend as they will participate in the 47th Annual East Stroudsburg Classic in East Stroudsburg, PA. Concordia will first face Notre Dame (OH) at 5pm on Saturday then plays East Stroudsburg on Sunday at 5pm.
