Lincoln University, PA - Monahan hits double-double as Clippers just missed against Livingstone

The Clippers faced off against the Livingstone College Blue Bears from North Carolina in the James A Richardson Tournament in Lincoln University, Pennsylvania today.  The Clippers ran off the first five points of the game against the Blue Bears.  The Blue Bears turned right around and tied the game up forcing a back and forth scoring run.  The Blue Bears then took their largest lead of the half going up 23-17 with 12 minutes left in the half.  The Clippers worked hard to cut the deficit down and with a couple of free throws, a jump shot and a three-pointer the game was ties with less than 8 minutes left in the half.  The Clippers then took the momentum and nailed a seven point lead minutes later.  With the Blue Bears and the Clippers going back and forth tying the game up six times and forcing seven lead changes the first half would be a dead heat at 43-43.

The second half kicked off with more of the back and forth from both teams.  The Clippers eventually pulled away but the Blue Bears kept them close by never stretching themselves beyond the single digits through most of the half.  The Blue Bears pushed back with the clock under four and a half minutes and tied the game for the last time.  With a Clipper earning her fifth foul of the game the momentum swung to the Blue Bear side.  The Clippers struggled to nail a shot down and the Blue Bears took the game 78-71.

Transfer Junior Shelley Monahan put up her first double-double of the season with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Monahan also recorded 4 assists and 3 steals in the game.  Dana Rommel, a senior, put up 17 points to lead the Clippers while Kayla Koch knocked down 15 points and added 5 assists. 

The Clippers will head to Assumption College to play in the Courtyard by Marriot Classic this coming weekend.
