BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – Freshman right-handed pitcher Madison Shura (Wallingford, Conn.) stifled Dominican College in the opening contest of Wednesday afternoon's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) doubleheader, limiting the visiting Chargers to four hits in a 3-1 victory for the Concordia College New York softball team while freshman right fielder Jordan Bordonaro (Lake Grove, N.Y.) and freshman second baseman Ellen Little (Port Deposit, Md.) both set career highs in a 10-9 game-two setback.
NOTES
• Concordia moves to 11-21, 7-15 in CACC play.
• Dominican moves to 21-18, 16-8 in league action.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS (GAME 1)
• Freshman first baseman Ashdon Clark (Gouldsboro, Pa.) went 2-3 with one run scored.
• Sophomore shortstop Stephanie Ryder (New Rochelle, N.Y.) went 1-3 with a double, RBI and run scored.
• Shura earned the victory after tossing a complete game.
• For Dominican, Alyssa Siess went 2-3. Shelby Smith tossed a complete game on the mound, allowing three runs with one earned off seven hits to go with two strikeouts.
HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 1)
• Reaching base with a two-out single in the bottom of the third, freshman catcher Carly Berezny (Oxford, N.J.) rounded the bases off a Ryder double before a Chargers' error allowed Clark and Ryder to score and create a 3-0 lead.
• Reaching base with a two-out walk in the top of the sixth, Kristin Miscia scored on a wild pitch to make it 3-1
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE (GAME 1)
• Concordia tallied seven hits, four going for extra bases, the Chargers recorded two.
• The Clippers left six runner on base, Dominican stranded six.
• Dominican committed two errors.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS (GAME 2)
• Bordonaro went a career-best 4-4 with a career-high three runs scored and one double.
• Little went 1-3 with her first collegiate triple, a career-high three RBI and personal-record three runs scored.
• Berezny went 2-4 with a triple, double, two RBI and one run scored.
• Senior center fielder Yeisy Cruz (Bronx, N.Y.) went 2-2 with one run scored.
• Sophomore RHP Ashley Walsh (Scranton, Pa.) got the start, allowing seven runs with five earned off 11 hits with two strikeouts.
• Clark tossed 2.2 scoreless innings.
• For Dominican, Emily Luzetsky went 5-5 with three runs scored and two RBI. Jennifer Paride got the victory on the mound after holding Concordia to one run in one inning while Smith received the save.
HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 2)
• Leading off the top of the first with a single, Shannon Kniple scored off a two-out single from Miscia with Luzetsky rounding the bases off a Clippers' error to take an early 2-0 lead.
• Concordia loaded the bases with two outs in the bottom of the first, sending Bordonaro and Little home off a single from senior designated player Allison Beltz (Whitehall, Pa.) to even the score at 2-all.
• Reaching base with a single in the bottom of the second, Bordonaro scored on a Dominican wild pitch before a Berezny single platted Little to create a 4-2 advantage.
• Leading off the top of the third with a single, Luzetsky rounded the bases off a Samantha Fitzgerald double with Fitzgerald scoring on a Miscia sacrifice fly to make it 4-4.
• Concordia loaded the bases with no outs in the bottom of the fourth, scoring all three baserunners on a triple from Little with a Berezny triple platting Little before Ryder sent Berezny home to boast a 9-4 edge.
• Dominican loaded the bases with no outs in the top of the fifth, sending Siess home via a walk before back-to-back singles from Kraft and Kniple scored four runs with a wild pitch platting Kraft to create a 10-9 score.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE (GAME 2)
• Concordia tallied 13 hits, the Chargers had 16.
• The Clippers left six runners on base, Dominican stranded nine.
• Both sides committed two errors.
