OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. – The Concordia College New York softball team played its final non-conference contests of the 2019 season on Thursday afternoon at the New York Institute of Technology, recovering from a 10-1 setback in the first outing of the doubleheader with a sixth-inning rally in game two that put the go-ahead run in the batter's box but could not complete the comeback in a 4-2 decision.
NOTES
• Concordia falls to 10-18.
• NYIT improves to 14-19.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS (GAME 1)
• Freshman third baseman Carly Berezny (Oxford, N.J.) went 1-2 with a double and run scored.
• Senior designated player Tori Tansley (Old Forge, Pa.) went 0-2 with one RBI.
• Junior right-handed pitcher MacKenna Powell (Milford, Pa.) got the start on the mound, allowing 10 runs with eight earned off 11 hits in 4.0 innings.
• For NYIT, Carissa Della Vecchia went 2-3 with a home run, three RBI and two runs scored while Lizul Portugal went 2-2 with one home run and two runs scored. Sophia Medina received the victory on the mound, allowing one run off three hits in 5.0 innings of work.
HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 1)
• Leading off the bottom of the first with a single, Ashley Budrewics rounded the bases off a Sydney Kratzert single with Kratzert and Portugal scoring on a Samantha Melendez double before a three-run home run from Della Vecchia created an early 6-0 lead.
• NYIT took advantage of a Clippers' error with two outs in the bottom of the second to send Kratzert home and extend the separation to 7-0.
• The Bears used three-straight singles with one out in the bottom of the third to plate Tori Fox and take an 8-0 lead.
• Leading off the top of the fourth with a double, Berezny got the Clippers on the scoreboard off a Tansley groundout to make it 8-1.
• Leading off the bottom of the fourth with a Portugal solo home run, the host capitalized on a Concordia error to plate Della Vecchia and boast a 10-1 advantage.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE (GAME 1)
• Concordia tallied three hits while the Bears had 11.
• The Clippers left three runner on base, NYIT stranded five.

STANDOUT PERFORMERS (GAME 2)
• Freshman shortstop Ellen Little (Port Deposit, Md.) went 1-3 with a run scored.
• Freshman right fielder Marcela Foley (Coral Springs, Fla.) went 0-1 with a run scored and walk.
• Sophomore RHP Ashley Walsh (Scranton, Pa.) tossed a complete game, allowing four runs with two earned off eight hits in 6.0 innings with three strikeouts.
• For NYIT, Mary Tom went 2-3 with a run scored. Jessica Budrewicz got the start on the mound, allowing two runs off three hits in 5.2 innings with seven strikeouts while Della Vecchia tossed the final 1.1 frames.
HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 2)
• Reaching base with a one-out single in the bottom of the second, Mikea Lewis rounded the bases off a two-out single from Ruth Rodriguez before a single from Stephanie Negila platted Rodriguez to give the host a 2-0 lead.
• NYIT capitalized on a Concordia error in the bottom of the third to get Portugal on base, sending the Bear home with a two-out single from Kylie Lacerte to extend the separation to 3-0.
• Reaching base on a Clippers' to begin the bottom of the fourth, Leandra Lopez sent Tom home on a two-out single to take a 4-0 advantage.
• Concordia three-consecutive hits from Little, Berezny and freshman first baseman Ashdon Clark (Gouldsboro, Pa.) with two outs in the top of the sixth to score Foley and Little and cut the deficit in half at 4-2
