PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Going into the final inning of Saturday's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) doubleheader trailing, the Concordia College New York softball team rallied for four runs in its final at bat while retiring host Chestnut Hill College without allowing a run in the bottom of the seventh to take the second outing 7-6 for a twinbill split after falling in the opener 3-1.
NOTES
• Concordia moves to 7-9 overall, 3-5 in CACC play.
• Chestnut Hill moves to 7-11, 3-3 in league action.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS (GAME 1)
• Third baseman Carly Acuña (North Hills, Calif.) went 2-3.
• Junior RHP MacKenna Powell (Milford, Pa.) tossed a complete game, allowing three runs off four hits with four strikeouts.
• For Chestnut Hill, Alessandra Messina went 2-3 with a home run and two RBI. Kaley Wise held the Clippers to one run off seven hits in 7.0 innings with four strikeouts.
HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 1)
• Chestnut Hill took an early 1-0 lead off a solo home run from Messina.
• The host used back-to-back doubles from Ariel Magee and Messina with one out in the bottom of the sixth to score Stevenson and Magee and take a 2-0 advantage.
• Following back-to-back base hits with one out in the top of the seventh, a RBI groundout from senior center fielder Audrey Gardus (Carbondale, Pa.) platted a pinch-running senior Yeisy Cruz (Bronx, N.Y.) to create the final score.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE (GAME 1)
• Concordia tallied seven hits while the Griffins had four.
• The Clippers left six runner on base, Chestnut Hill stranded two.
• Concordia had one error
• Both sides stole one base.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS (GAME 2)
• Freshman first baseman Ashdon Clark (Gouldsboro, Pa) went 2-2 with two runs scored and one walk.
• Gardus went 3-4 with two RBI.
• Cruz went 2-3 with two runs scored, one RBI and one walk.
• Freshman catcher Carly Berezny (Oxford, N.J.) went 1-4 with her second home run of the season.
• Freshman RHP Madison Shura (Wallingford, Conn.) earned the win after holding Chestnut Hill off the scoreboard over the final 3.2 innings with three strikeouts and two hits allowed.
• For Chestnut Hill, Magee went 204 with a run scored and RBI. Gabrielle Merryman received the loss on the mound, allowing four runs with one earned off six hits in 3.1 innings.
HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 2)
• Leading off the top of the fourth with a hit by pitch, Clark rounded the bases on a Cruz single before a base hit from Gardus platted Cruz and sophomore right fielder Kiana Sauter (Waymart, Pa.) to create a 3-0 score.
• Chestnut Hill loaded the bases with no outs in the bottom of the fourth, scoring four runs off a Hunter Irvin single and Cailey Stevenson double back-to-back before a Magee single and Messina double with one out added two more runs to give the host a 6-3 advantage.
• Following a one-out solo home run from Berezny, the Clippers loaded the bases with two outs off back-to-back singles from Clark and sophomore shortstop Stephanie Ryder (New Rochelle, N.Y.) and a walk from Cruz before back-to-back fielding errors for the Griffins allowed Clark, pinch-running freshman Marcela Foley (Coral Springs, Fla.) and Cruz to score and propel Concordia to a 7-6 lead.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE (GAME 2)
• Both sides recorded 11 hits.
• The Clippers left nine runners on base, CHC stranded four.
• Concordia had one error, Chestnut Hill committed two.
• Concordia stole one base.

The softball team stays in Philadelphia to take on the University of the Sciences in a doubleheader on Sunday, Mar. 31 with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m.
