ORANGEBURG, N.Y. –
Senior designated player/first baseman Tori Tansley (Old Forge, Pa.) boasted four hits with two in each game of the Concordia College New York softball team's doubleheader against Nyack College on Tuesday afternoon, with junior RHP MacKenna Powell (Milford, Pa.) tossing a complete game in the second outing to lead the Clippers to their first Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) victory of the campaign behind a 6-2 result after falling in the opener 9-4.
NOTES
• Concordia moves to 5-5 overall, 1-1 in CACC play.
• Nyack moves to 3-14, 1-3 in league action.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS (GAME 1)
• Senior center fielder Audrey Gardus (Carbondale, Pa.) went 2-3 with two runs scored and one stolen base.
• Freshman second baseman Ellen Little (Port Deposit, Md.) went 1-4 with two RBI and one runs scored.
• Tansley went 2-3.
• Sophomore righty Ashley Walsh (Scranton) got the start on the mound for Concordia, allowing three earned runs off nine hits in 5.0 innings.
• For Nyack, Janelle Adams went 2-3 with a home run, five RBI and two runs scored. Alyssa Giampolo tossed a complete game for the Warriors, holding Concordia to one earned run and four total off nine hits.
HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 1)
• Nyack used a solo home run from Alissa Brugnoli in the top of the second inning to take a 1-0 lead.
• Leading off the top of the third with a single, Krissy Johnson scored off a Concordia error to give Nyack a 2-0 advantage.
• Concordia cut the separation in half in the bottom of the third, with Gardus leading off the stanza with a single before scoring on a one-out single from Little to make it 2-1.
• Nyack used three-straight base hits to begin the fifth inning to score Adams and create a 3-1 lead.
• Loading the bases with no outs in the top of the sixth, Nyack created a 7-1 score off a grand slam from Adams.
• The Warriors added a pair of runs to their lead in the seventh, using an Adams sacrifice fly with the bases loaded and wild pitch to take a 9-1 lead.
• Leading off the top of the seventh with back-to-back singles, a Nyack error allowed senior left fielder Yeisy Cruz (Bronx, N.Y.) to score with a freshman catcher Carly Berezny (Oxford, N.J.) sacrifice fly and freshman first baseman Ashdon Clark (Gouldsboro, Pa.) double scoring Gardus and Little to create the final score.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE (GAME 1)
• Concordia tallied nine hits while the Warriors had 13.
• The Clippers left seven runner on base, Nyack stranded 11.
• Concordia recorded one error with Nyack committing two.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS (GAME 2)
• Little went 2-3 with a RBI, run scored and walk.
• Tansley went 2-3 with a triple and run scored.
• Shortstop Stephanie Ryder (New Rochelle, N.Y.) recorded two RBI.
• Cruz scored two runs while going 1-3 at the plate.
• Powell allowed two runs, one earned off five hits in the complete-game effort.
• For Nyack, Erin O'Brien went 2-3 with a RBI while Stephanie White allowed six runs, three earned, off nine hits in 6.0 innings.
HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 2)
• Leading off the bottom of the first with a single, Cruz scored the opening run of the second game off a Berezny grounder to give Concordia an early 1-0 lead.
• Loading the bases with no outs in the bottom of the third, Concordia capitalized on a Nyack error to score Cruz and Little to extend the separation to 3-0.
• With two outs in the top of sixth, a triple from Johnson and single from O'Brien back-to-back scored the Warrior to make it 3-1.
• Opening the bottom of the sixth with back-to-back singles from senior catcher Allison Beltz (Whitehall, Pa.) and Tansley, a one-out single from freshman center fielder Jordan Bordonaro (Lake Grove, N.Y.) platted Beltz before a bases-loaded walk for Little scored Tansley and Berezny groundout sent Bordonaro home to create a 6-1 edge.
• Nyack attempted to stage a comeback in the top of the seventh, leading off with back-to-back singles and scoring a run off a wild pitch, but the Clippers retired the following three batters to end the contest.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE (GAME 2)
• Concordia tallied nine hits while the Warriors had five.
• The Clippers left six runners on base, Nyack stranded three.
• Both sides committed three errors.
