Seniors Set Career Highs For Softball In Doubleheader Split

CLERMONT, Fla. – Senior center fielder Audrey Gardus (Carbondale, Pa.) drove a career-high four runners home for the Concordia College New York softball team in the first contest of its doubleheader on Friday afternoon with senior designated hitter Yeisy Cruz (Bronx, N.Y.) tallying a career-high two RBI in the first game and a personal-record three hits in the second outing as the Clippers defeated Malone University 11-4 before a 4-3 setback against Lake Erie College.

NOTES
• Concordia moves to 2-4

• Malone falls to 6-4

• Lake Erie improves to 1-1.

STANDOUT PERFORMERS (GAME 1)
• Gardus went 1-3 with four RBI.

• Freshman first baseman Ashdon Clark (Gouldsboro, Pa.) set her personal-record in hits behind a 3-5 outing with a career-high two runs scored.

• Cruz went 2-3 with two runs scored, two RBI and a stolen base.

• Sophomore third baseman Carly Acuña (North Hills, Calif.) went 0-4 with a two RBI, one run scored and one walk.

• Sophomore shortstop Stephanie Ryder (New Rochelle, N.Y.) went 2-3 with a career-high two runs scored, two walks and one RBI.

• Sophomore RHP Ashley Walsh (Scranton, Pa.) allowed four runs, three earned, off eight hits in the complete-game victory.

• Malone, Corrick Madison went 2-4 with a RBI and run scored while Bailey Byers went 1-4 with two RBI and one run scored off a home run.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 1)
• With a runner on base via a leadoff double, Malone took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first off a Byers home run.

• With the bases loaded and two outs in the top of the third, back-to-back walks for senior catcher Tori Tansley (Old Forge, Pa.) and Acuña scored freshman right fielder Jordan Bordonaro (Lake Grove, N.Y.) and freshman second baseman Ellen Little (Port Deposit, Md.) to even the score. The Clippers took the lead on the ensuing at bat, a Cruz single to score Ryder before a three-RBI double from Gardus scored Tansley, Acuña and Cruz to create a 6-2 advantage.

• Malone got April Howser on base in the bottom of the third via a Concordia error, using two sacrifice hits following a hit by pitch to score the Pioneer and make it 6-3.

• Cruz took advantage of a Malone error in the top of the fifth to score and extend the separation to 7-3.

• Concordia loaded the bases in the top of the sixth off a freshman left fielder Carly Berezny (Oxford, N.J.) walk and back-to-back singles from Clark and Ryder, with Ryder touching home plate on a Malone error while a Cruz single platted Clark and sacrifice fly from Gardus sent Ryder home to give the Clippers a 10-3 lead.

• A two-out double from Corrick in the bottom of the sixth scored Ritts to make it 11-4.

• Clark got on base with a two-out single in the top of the seventh, rounding the bases off a Ryder double to create the final score.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE (GAME 1)
• Concordia tallied 12 hits while the Pioneers had eight.

• The Clippers left 11 runner on base, Malone stranded seven.

• Concordia committed two errors with Malone committing four.

STANDOUT PERFORMERS (GAME 2)
• Cruz went 3-3 with a double and run scored.

• Berezny went 1-3 with a double on top of personal-best three RBI.

• Bordonaro went 2-3 with a run scored.

• On the mound, junior RHP MacKenna Powell (Milford, Pa.) did not allow an earned run in a complete-game outing with six hits allowed.

• For Lake Erie, Jesse Carpenter went 3-3 with a run scored while Parker Viele fanned six Clippers in a complete-game win.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 2)
• Lake Erie capitalized on an error to start the top of the second to score four unearned run and take an early 4-0 lead.

• Concordia loaded the bases in bottom of the fifth, using a one-out double from Berezny to score Cruz, Bordonaro and Little and cut the separation to one at 4-3.

• Six got on base for Walsh in the top of the third with a two-out single, rounding the bases with the help of two Clippers' error to make it 6-1.

• Walsh rallied in the top of the seventh, scoring three runs and loading the bases with two outs, but the Clippers got the final out with a popup.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE (GAME 2)
• Concordia tallied eight hits while the Storm had six.

• The Clippers left nine runners on base, Lake Erie stranded six.

• Both sides committed two errors.
