CLERMONT, Fla. – Senior Tori Tansley (Old Forge, Pa.) and freshman Ashdon Clark (Gouldsboro, Pa.) both tallied hits in each game of the Concordia College New York softball team's doubleheader on Thursday afternoon, with the Clippers fending off a seventh-inning rally from Walsh University for a 6-4 victory after falling against Concordia University – St. Paul 10-2.
NOTES
• Concordia moves to 1-3
• Concordia-St. Paul improves to 9-5.
• Walsh drops to 1-10.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS (GAME 1)
• Clark went 2-3 with a RBI
• Freshman Outfielder Jordan Bordonaro (Lake Grove, N.Y.) went 0-1 with two walks and a run scored.
• Sophomore second baseman Carly Acuña (North Hills, Calif.) tallied a RBI.
• Sophomore right fielder Kiana Sauter (Waymart, Pa.) went 1-2 with a double.
• Junior RHP MacKenna Powell (Milford, Pa.) allowed 10 runs, nine earned, off 11 hits with two strikeouts in 5.1 innings.
• For Concordia-St. Paul, Carlie Hart went 3-3 with three RBI and four runs scored while Aryka Knoche went 3-3 with two RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 1)
• Beginning the contest with a walk. Concordia took the early 1-0 lead in the top of the first with Clark sending Bordonaro home on a groundout.
• Concordia-St. Paul flipped the one-run advantage in the bottom of the first, using a one-out double from Knoche to score Justine Schattner and Hart.
• A Schattner sacrifice fly for the Bears in the bottom of the third platted Hart to make it 3-1.
• After retiring the opening two batters in the bottom of the fourth, four-consecutive singles for Concordia-St. Paul scored three runs, with the Bears capitalizing on a Clippers' error for one more run to extend the separation to 7-1.
• Pinch running for Clark who began the top of the sixth with a single, senior Yeisy Cruz (Bronx, N.Y.) touched home plate on an Acuña groundout to make it 7-2.
• The Bears homered twice in the bottom of the sixth to score three runs and end the game.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE (GAME 1)
• Concordia tallied four hits while the Bears had 11.
• The Clippers left six runner on base, Concordia St. Paul stranded five.
• Both sides committed one error.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS (GAME 2)
• Freshman second baseman Ellen Little (Port Deposit, Md.) went 2-4 with a RBI and run scored
• Tansley went 2-4 with one RBI
• Bordonaro went 2-3 with a run scored and walk.
• On the mound, freshman righty Madison Shura (Wallingford, Conn.) earned her first collegiate victory after allowing four runs, one earned, off seven hits with six strikeouts in the complete game.
• For Walsh, Brooke Six went 3-4 with two runs scored.
HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 2)
• Opening the bottom of the first with back-to-back singles, freshman catcher Carly Berezny (Oxford, N.J.) sent Bordonaro home with a groundout to give Concordia a 1-0 lead.
• Concordia loaded the bases with no outs in the bottom of the second via back-to-back walks and a Bordonaro single, with a single from Little and Berezny grounder platting Sauter and senior center fielder Audrey Gardus (Carbondale, Pa.). Three-consecutive base hits from Clark, Tansley and Acuña scored Berezny and Clark to create a 6-0 advantage.
• Six got on base for Walsh in the top of the third with a two-out single, rounding the bases with the help of two Clippers' error to make it 6-1.
• Walsh rallied in the top of the seventh, scoring three runs and loading the bases with two outs, but the Clippers got the final out with a popup.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE (GAME 2)
• Concordia tallied nine hits while the Cavaliers had seven.
• The Clippers left 10 runners on base, Walsh stranded 11.
• Concordia committed three errors with Walsh having two.
