Concordia Softball Splits a Pair of CACC Road Games at Nyack

ORANGEBURG, N.Y. – The Concordia Clippers softball team traveled to Nyack College on Friday afternoon to battle the Warriors in a pair of Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) games. Concordia would earn a split on the afternoon as they secured a 5-4 victory in game one, but fell in the nightcap, 7-4.

In the first game the Clippers would take a 5-0 lead in the top of the third inning as junior Allison Beltz (Whitehall, Pa.), sophomore Shayla Peterson (Bethlehem, Pa.), senior Sarah Ross (Dunmore, Pa.), freshman Stephanie Ryder (New Rochelle, N.Y.), and junior Tori Tansley (Old Forge, Pa.) all drove in runs for Concordia. Nyack would score a lone run in the home half of the third and added three more to their total in the fourth to trail 5-4. Neither team was able to score another run as the Clippers held on for the 5-4 victory. Ross earned her third pitching win of the season for Concordia as she allowed four earned runs on 10 hits while striking out two batters in 7.0 innings of work.

Game two began with the Clippers scoring a run in the top of the first inning as Beltz would record an RBI single. Beltz added her second RBI of the game in the top of the third as she recorded another single to give Concordia the 2-0 advantage. The Warriors would score a lone run in the home half of the third and three more runs in the fourth to take a 4-2 lead. Nyack added two more runs in the fifth as the Clippers now trailed 6-2.

Concordia would cut the deficit to two runs in the sixth inning as Ross recorded an RBI after a bases loaded walk and senior Cassidy Gorgo (Millville, N.J.) scored off a wild pitch. The Warriors added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth as Nyack would hold on for the 7-4 win. Peterson was tagged with the loss for the Clippers as she allowed two earned runs on six hits while striking out five batters in 6.0 innings.

Concordia (7-19, 5-15 CACC) will be on the road again tomorrow to visit Georgian Court in Lakewood, N.J. First pitch of the CACC doubleheader is set for 3 p.m.
