BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – The Concordia College softball team hosted Felician University for a pair of Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) games at Clipper Softball Field on Monday afternoon. The Clippers would battle their way to a split against the Golden Falcons as Felician took game one, 8-5, but Concordia answered with a 9-1 win in six innings in game two to snap a five-game losing skid.
Game one began with the Clippers jumping out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning as freshman Stephanie Ryder (New Rochelle, N.Y.) hit a RBI single to left field and drove in sophomore Shayla Peterson (Bethlehem, Pa.). The Golden Falcons responded with lone runs in the second and third innings while adding two runs in the fourth to lead 4-1. The visitors continued to add to their total with runs in the fifth and sixth innings as Concordia trailed 6-1 after five and a half innings.
In the home half of the sixth, junior Yeisy Cruz (Bronx, N.Y.) drove in the Clippers' second run of the game as Concordia was behind 6-2. Felician added their final two runs in the seventh inning as the Clippers looked to mount a late comeback in their final at-bats of the game.
Concordia scored their first of the seventh off an error as juniors Allison Beltz (Whitehall, Pa.) and Tori Tansley (Old Forge, Pa.) both recorded RBIs to close the gap to 8-5. The Clippers were unable to add any more runs to their total as the Golden Falcons held on for the 8-5 victory. Senior Sarah Ross (Dunmore, Pa.) was tagged with the loss as she pitched all seven innings allowing three earned runs on nine hits while striking out one batter for Concordia in 7.0 innings of work.
In the second game the Clippers would score four runs in their first at-bats of the game as sophomore MacKenna Powell (Milford, Pa.) and Ryder each drove in a run while Tansley added two RBIs to her total as Concordia led 4-0.
Felician scored a lone run in the third to cut their deficit to 4-1, but the Clippers used another four-run inning in the fourth to lead 8-1. Ross, Ryder, and Tansley all drove in runs as Cruz would score on an error to give Concordia the sizable lead. The Clippers' final run of the game came in the sixth as Tansley provided her fourth RBI of the game as Concordia took the 9-1 win in six innings.
Powell picked up her first pitching victory of the season as she allowed one earned run on six hits while striking out four batters in 6.0 innings of work for the Clippers.
Concordia (6-18, 4-14 CACC) will visit Nyack College on Wednesday for a pair of CACC games in Orangeburg, N.Y. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
