Clippers Softball Edged in CACC Home Doubleheader by Chestnut Hill

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – The Concordia Clippers softball team returned home to Clipper Softball Field on Saturday for a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) doubleheader against Chestnut Hill College. Concordia was edged by the Griffins in both games, 3-1 and 3-2, in two highly competitive games.

Game one saw neither team able to score the game's first run through four innings as Chestnut Hill took a 1-0 lead in the fifth inning. The visitors would add two more runs in the top of the seventh as it came down to the Clippers' last at-bats to attempt a late comeback.

Concordia led off with a double from freshman Stephanie Ryder (New Rochelle, N.Y.) as she would later score off an RBI from junior Tori Tansley (Old Forge, Pa.). The Clippers were unable to bring home any more runs as the Griffins held on for the 3-1 win. Senior Sarah Ross (Dunmore, Pa.) was tagged with the loss as she pitched all seven innings allowing two earned runs on nine hits while striking out two batters for Concordia.

In the second game Chestnut Hill scored a lone run in the second and two more runs in the third to lead 3-0. Concordia was unable to tie the score or take the lead in their final at-bats as the Griffins edged the Clippers, 3-2. Sophomore MacKenna Powell (Milford, Pa.) was charged with the loss after allowing one earned runs on three hits while striking out two batters in 7.0 innings of work.
