Concordia Softball Drops CACC Doubleheader to Holy Family

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – The Concordia College softball team played in their home opener on Saturday afternoon at Clipper Softball Field as Concordia hosted Holy Family University for a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) doubleheader. Concordia was unable to grab a win on the day as the Tigers took 7-1 and 8-2 wins.

In the first game Holy Family would score a lone run in the top of the first as the Clippers answered back with the equalizer courtesy of a RBI from senior Sarah Ross (Dunmore, Pa.) in the home half of the inning. The next three innings would go scoreless until the Tigers added three runs to their total in the fifth to lead 4-1. The visitors added a run in the sixth and two in the seventh as Concordia was held to only four hits in the game, falling 7-1. Ross pitched the complete game for the Clippers in the loss as she allowed four earned runs on nine hits while striking out four batters in 7.0 innings.

Game two began the same way in the first inning as Holy Family scored in their first at-bats and Concordia tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the first after a sacrifice fly from freshman Stephanie Ryder (New Rochelle, N.Y.). The Tigers scored lone runs in the second, third, and fourth innings to lead 4-1, and then added four more runs to lead 8-1 after six innings. The Clippers managed to score one more run in their final at-bats off a RBI single from sophomore MacKenna Powell (Milford, Pa.) as Concordia fell 8-2. Sophomore Shayla Peterson (Bethlehem, Pa.) was tagged with the loss as she allowed five earned runs on 12 hits while striking out a batter in 5.0 innings.
