Clippers Softball Concludes Florida Trip with a 5-1 Win Over Saint Rose and 5-0 Defeat to Northern St.

CLERMONT, Fla. – The Concordia Clippers softball team played their final two games of their Florida trip on Tuesday afternoon as Concordia topped Saint Rose, 5-1, before falling to Northern St., 5-0.

The Golden Knights would get on the scoreboard first as a lone run in the home half of the first would give Saint Rose the 1-0 lead. The Clippers would take the lead for good in the third inning as senior Sarah Ross (Dunmore, Pa.) hit her first collegiate grand slam with one out in the inning. Later in the third, junior Tori Tansley (Old Forge, Pa.) added an RBI with a bases loaded single to give Concordia a 5-1 lead. Sophomore Shayla Peterson (Bethlehem, Pa.) earned her second win of the season for the Clippers after allowing only one unearned run on three hits while striking out three batters in the complete game.

Against the Wolves, Northern St. would score two runs in the top of the first as Concordia found themselves trailing 2-0 in the early going. The Clippers were held to only three hits during the game as the Wolves added two insurance runs in the sixth and another run in the seventh to take the 5-0 victory. Ross pitched the complete game for Concordia as she allowed four earned runs on 11 hits while striking out two batters in the defeat.

The Clippers (2-4) are next scheduled to visit Goldey-Beacom College on Saturday, March 17th to begin their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) schedule.
