Softball Takes Game Two of CACC Doubleheader in Split Against Bloomfield

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. - The Concordia College softball team was back in action on Monday afternoon as the Clippers hosted the Bloomfield Bears for a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) doubleheader at Clipper Softball Field. Bloomfield would take the first game, 4-1, but Concordia bounced back to edge the Bears in the second game, 2-1, to earn the split.

Game one saw Bloomfield score three runs in the third inning to take the early advantage, then score a lone run in the top of the fourth to hold the 4-0 lead. The Clippers scored their only run of the game in the home half of the fourth as a two out single up the middle for junior Sarah Ross (Dunmore, Pa.) allowed freshman Rachel Roccograndi (Nanticoke, Pa.) to score from second base. Concordia recorded only two more hits for the remainder of the game as the Bears took the 4-1 win.

Freshman Shayla Peterson (Bethlehem, Pa.) was tagged with the loss for the Clippers as she pitched the complete game and allowed two earned runs on nine hits while striking out a career-high nine batters.

In the second game Bloomfield would strike first with a quick run in the top of the first inning. Concordia responded with the equalizer in the home half of the first as Roccograndi would score on an error by the Bears as the score was knotted up at 1-1. The Clippers would take the lead in the bottom of the third as a lead-off home run for Roccograndi, her second of the season, would give Concordia the 2-1 advantage. Bloomfield was unable to score another run as the Clippers held on to edge the Bears, 2-1, and earn the split.

Ross picked up her third pitching victory of the season for Concordia as she did not allow an earned run in the complete game as she gave up only five hits and struck out a season-best seven batters.

The Clippers (8-22, 7-17 CACC) will conclude their season tomorrow afternoon with a CACC doubleheader against Dominican College (N.Y.). First pitch is set for 12 p.m. at Clipper Softball Field as fans unable to attend can follow the action by accessing the live stats link under the softball schedule page on ConcordiaClippers.com.
