Concordia Softball Sweeps Nyack in Home Openers

Bronxville, N.Y. – The Clippers softball team played in their first home games on Wednesday afternoon. Concordia battled Nyack College in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) doubleheader at Clipper Softball Field. Runs were sparse on the day but the Clippers managed to win both games 1-0, which included a one-hitter, as the team has now won three straight games in CACC play.

The first game would feature senior Theresa Magnani (Bethpage, N.Y.) at starting pitcher for Concordia. Magnani would have a career day as she only allowed one hit in the game, which came in the second inning, to shutout the Warriors.

On the offensive end only one run would be scored in the game and it would happen in the bottom of the third for the Clippers. Senior Laura Brezovsky (Yonkers, N.Y.) drove in the game-winning RBI after a double to center field allowed sophomore Alexandra Mandarano (New Rochelle, N.Y.) to score from second base.

Magnani would not allow a hit or a walk as she sat down Nyack's batters in order over the last four innings following the run for Concordia. She would tie her season-high of five strike outs in the game as the Clippers held on for the 1-0 victory.

Freshman Hannah Rubasky (Nanticoke, Pa.) would get the start in the second game for Concordia. The only run for either side would be scored in the first inning as senior Kristina Patrocinio (Edison, N.J.) hit an RBI triple to the outfield for the Clippers which scored freshman Brittany Lampert (Shelton, Conn.) from third base.

Rubasky would keep the Warriors off the scoreboard for the second game. The sixth inning for Nyack would be their best chance to tie the game as they had runners on second and third with one out. Rubasky would work hard to get the next two batters out as Concordia would hold on for another 1-0 win.

Rubasky ended the game allowing only four hits while striking out a career-high seven batters.

The Clippers (4-9, 3-1 CACC) will look to extend their winning streak on Friday as they visit USciences. Concordia will begin game one of the CACC doubleheader at 2pm in Philadelphia, Pa.
