Clippers Split Doubleheader with 5-1 Victory and 2-1 Defeat against Goldey-Beacom

Wilmington, DE – The Concordia College softball team traveled to face Goldey-Beacom College in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) doubleheader on Saturday afternoon. The Clippers snapped their nine game losing streak with a 5-1 victory but fell in the second game, 2-1.

Concordia jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first inning as the team looked to grab the early momentum. Victoria Pisciotta (New Hyde Park, NY) and Angela D'Amico (Old Bridge, NJ) both recorded RBI doubles to get the offense started. Theresa Magnani (Bethpage, NY) added the Clippers' third run in the second inning off an RBI single up the middle of the infield.

The top of the fifth saw Concordia drive home two more runs to take a 5-0 lead. Maria DeMartino (Staten Island, NY) and Pisciotta scored on an error by the Lightning's left fielder. Goldey-Beacom scored a lone run in the bottom of the seventh to avoid the shutout as the Clippers captured their ninth victory of the season. Magnani pitched a complete game for Concordia as she allowed one earned run on eight hits while striking out four batters for her seventh win of the season.

In game two, the Clippers recorded the first run again as Nelyssa Rosario's (Kingsbridge, NY) RBI single up the middle of the infield scored D'Amico from second base. The Lighting remained off the scoreboard until the fourth inning. Goldey-Beacom scored two runs in the inning to take a 2-1 advantage.

Concordia's best chance to tie the game came in the top of the seventh with runners on second and third with two outs. The Clippers were unable to drive in the run as the Lightning held on for the victory, their 18th of the season. Magnani pitched another complete game for Concordia in the loss as she allowed two earned runs on five hits.

The Clippers (9-18, 6-14 CACC) will return home to close out their season with three straight doubleheaders at Clipper Softball Field. Concordia will next take to the field on Tuesday afternoon against Felician College as game one is set to begin at 3pm.
