Bronxville, NY – The Concordia College softball team played in their first home games of the season on Sunday afternoon. The Clippers took on Chestnut Hill College in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) doubleheader at Clipper Softball Field. Concordia won both games with ease, 13-0 and 12-0, as both games only took five innings to complete.
The Clippers got on the scoreboard in game one with their first batter of the game as Maria DeMartino (Staten Island, NY) hit a solo home run to left center field. In the second inning, Concordia would score nine runs off seven hits which included three doubles and a triple.
In the bottom of the third, the Clippers added three more runs to take a 13-0 lead. Starting pitcher, Theresa Magnani (Bethpage, NY) kept the Griffins off the scoreboard as she pitched a complete game allowing only three hits while striking out four batters in 5.0 innings to earn her fifth win of the season. Magnani also led the offense with three RBI's as Concordia hit a combined five doubles in the game.
In game two, the Clippers' bats would remain on fire as they scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning. Nelyssa Rosario (Kingsbridge, NY) would hit a two-run home run while Angela D'Amico (Old Bridge, NY) and Nicole Spadaro (Merrick, NY) drove in a run each. Concordia continued to add to their lead in the second inning as Victoria Pisciotta (New Hyde Park, NY) and Spadaro both had RBI's to give the Clippers a 6-0 advantage.
Concordia would put more pressure on Chestnut Hill's pitching staff in the third inning as they loaded the bases with only one out. Back-to-back singles by Pisciotta and Kristina Patrocinio (Edison, NJ) added three more runs to the scoreboard as the Griffins had to make a pitching change. The Clippers would pressure the new pitcher as well, scoring twice more before the inning ended in favor of the home team, 11-0.
Concordia's starting pitcher, Amanda Ramirez (Lindenhurst, NY), earned her first collegiate win as she pitched 5.0 innings for the complete game shutout. Ramirez faced only 16 batters in the game as she only allowed one hit while striking out one batter. The Clippers' patience enabled them to draw five walks in the game as six different players recorded an RBI.
Concordia (6-5, 3-1 CACC) will take Monday off as they now prepare for Post University. The Clippers will take on the Eagles Tuesday at 3pm for a CACC doubleheader at Clipper Softball Field.
