Concordia Concludes First Cross Country Meet of 2012 at Valiant Invitational

Purchase, N.Y. – The Concordia Clippers cross country teams kicked off their 2012 season on Saturday as they ran in the Valiant Invitational at Manhattanville College. Both teams finished in sixth place in their respective races.

In the men's 5K race, James Ebersole (San Antonio, Texas) finished a team-best 32nd overall with a time of 21:25 while Martin Miedzowicz (Montevideo, Uruguay) and Dan Koehler (Glendale, N.Y.) finished shortly behind with times of 21:56 and 22:18, respectively. Sophomores Ian Lescouflair (Bronx, N.Y.) and Jake Matranga (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) rounded out the Clippers' team with times of 25:24 and 27:44.

In the women's 5K race freshman Emily Schwiederek (Bridgewater, N.J.) led the team with a time of 23:55 in her first collegiate event finishing in 24th overall. Junior Jennie Heisler (Buffalo, N.Y.) would place two spots behind Schwiederek with a time of 24:25. Senior Chanessa Blakemore (Albany, N.Y.) recorded a time of 30:32 in her first collegiate race while juniors Katie Spreitzer (New York, N.Y.) and Arafat Omidiran (Nigeria) rounded out the finishing order for Concordia with times of 31:22 and 33:18, respectively.

The men and women will both race on Saturday, September 29th in the MSMC Knight Invite at Chadwick Lake Park in Newburgh, N.Y. The women are set to begin their race at 11am while the men will start at 11:45am.
