BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) released its final East Region Rankings of the 2018-19 academic year this week, with the 26th-ranked nationally Concordia College New York men's tennis team sitting atop the region for the 14th time since 2005 while five members of the team cracked the singles top-20 rankings on top of two doubles pairings placing in the top-10 regionally.
The Clippers ended the season with an 18-4 overall record, going undefeated against East Region opposition while advancing to the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) National Championship Round of 16 and winning the program's ninth Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Title.
Sophomore Michele Fenoaltea (Rome, Italy) highlights the Clippers in the singles rankings with the top spot regionally. Opening the season as the top-ranked singles player in the region after winning the ITA East Regional, Fenoaltea went 21-2 overall in singles action to rank 68th in the ITA's final National Singles Poll and garner CACC All-Conference First Team distinction.
Senior Eymeric Chevalier (Bordeaux, France) ranked second in singles while he and sophomore Henry Masters (Northampton, England) placed ninth in the final regional doubles rankings. Chevalier, the CACC Player of the Year, went 13-7 at the Clippers' top slot with a 6-1 mark against regionally-ranked foes. He and Masters went 11-3 overall in doubles play, primarily at the second slot. Masters, an All-Conference Second Team honoree, ended the campaign ranked 13th within the region after going 13-7 in singles with at least one match on every court.
Sophomore William Nilsson (Bastad, Sweden) and freshman Jan Godfrey Seno (Cebu City, Philippines) concluded the season as the second-ranked pairing in the region, with both placing within the region's singles rankings. As a duo, Nilsson and Godfrey Seno went 13-6 with a 10-3 mark at the top flight including a 4-2 record against regionally-ranked opposition. Nilsson, the ITA East Region Player to Watch and CACC All-Conference Second Team recipient, went 18-4 during the season. Godfrey Seno, an All-Conference Second Team member, matched Fenoaltea for the most overall singles victories behind a 21-1 record while his 18-0 dual-match mark makes him the fourth Clipper to go undefeated in dual-match play since 2006.
